UPDATE: Well, the Cougar has died, blown head gaskets that cost more to fix than the car is worth so I bought a new car. Stay tuned as I begin a new project in my 2002 Subaru Impreza WRX, it should be relatively interesting.
Well, this is my humble install page, dedicated to the building of a competition worthy stereo in my 1990 Cougar. Hopefully this page can give you some good ideas on what to do to your car. If you have any questions feel free to get ahold of me. I hope to take you through step by step and show you the work that goes into building a competition car.
As promised, here is a better pic of my car, although this was taken before I had the spoiler put on. Oh yea, and thats me with the car.
Here is my "wood shop" its my porch... Its basically big enough to fit a 4x8 sheet of mdf and thats about it...
Here is the new deck I have, its the Clarion 9675z. It is a very cool deck, this is just one of the 15 or so different background screens it has. It also has an eq and dsp built right into the unit, it also has a 24 bit DAC which is very important to the sound quality of the deck.
Well, here is a shot of the new kickpanels I have in my car. Unfortunately I did not have a camera while I was in the process of making them so if you have questions just email me. Each kick panel holds an OZ Audio 4" midrange and 1" tweet.
My doors also got a layer of High-Temp Mastic from mcmaster.com applied to them.
Here is one of my wiring pics so you can get an idea of what I did with the wiring in the car. It is ran in flex loom and screwed down to the car so it doesnt move.
The terminals for all the speakers got heat shrink tubing applied to them to prevent any possible shorting.
The speaker wires in the door were also run through flex loom and the terminals were treated to more heat shrink tubing.
Continue on to the next page to see the amp rack and sub enclosure.
