so i finally got my attainable dream. even though it has huge potential inside and out it remains stock for now while i work the bugs out, german cars last forever but the little things can drive you nuts. the car is in great shape considering the 162,000 miles on the clock, it runs strong except for the normal rough idle and hesitation after cold start associated with normal wear... main issues are a normal looking (when i bought it it was taped and crooked) but non functional sunroof, minor electrical glitches, and the desperate need for an alignment.

update: since i had a day alone with the car i fixed some of the minor stuff that was annoying me and found out what was keeping some of the other stuff from working. things like the cigarette lighter and front passenger/rear drivers side windows (fixed) divert my atention until i take it to my friends house to get new control arms.
update: i miss my car... its been with a friend for three days now while he puts the control arms on and gets it aligned, these are the things that should let me get real tags then i can start upgrading while i fix other little things like the flex discs (smooths acceleration and idle). im getting real benz floormats from a friend and i ended with a decent old amp and two subs as well so when i get a new head unit i may put them in as well. im also going to be getting a set of rims sooner than i thought, me and my friend just got these pics we took of our cars and then took some more tonight during a thunder storm, his car is my goal for general condition of mine.

update: well though its been a while since ive updated, not much has changed with the car, the handling is much better now that the rear control arms have been replaced and the car has been aligned. after looking at the parts that were removed, ive realized why it was so unpredictable. its still not perfect but maybe once i get the rims ill realign and adjust it. the only major thing thats happened since i got it back is a flat tire revealing several things. 1)the full size spare, although in good condition, is almost certainly not the original from the car as it is has slightly different holes which go unnoticed unless you are looking for it. 2)the right front jack point is fairly well clogged with most likely rust and dirt causing 3) the jack broke about halfway up because of the jack wasnt all the way in the hole. i had to use a bystanders floor jack and the spare will probably remain on the car until i get the new rims and tires. the car is now at almost 700 miles from when i picked it up.
update: me and my friend cleaned our cars up today but i still havent gotten the tape marks off the roof and i fear some of them might be permanent

as for beltway benzes, drop me a line and maybe we'll work somthing out
update: finally got my new rims and put them on today... lovely weather for it (not really) hot as hell. even though i havent reset the pressures yet it drives well and i get more feedback at the expense of a rougher ride, anyways here are some pics kinda blurry i think cuz of humidity

update: its been a while since ive updated but nothing much has happened since then. the new rims are holding up well and dont seem to be off balance (repairs were made before i bought them). they really do good for the look of the car. they even seem to have soothed the cars squirmyness on the turns some and they have loads of grip. one thing is that there is a wierd repetitive noise from the front right corner but i dont think its the rim or tire. the car still has some suspension problems so its probably just another thing for my to do list. the interior is coming along as well as i installed a scrap of persian rug in the center console, its an easy change anyone can make if they can get an alternative to the regular carpet and trim it to fit. ive also learned quite a bit about the electronics and how to get to them in my search for the problem causing my window fuse to blow. no luck yet but with the help of my friend i do have a working cigarette lighter now. ive out about 1600 miles on the car and have done my first oil change on it. no major problems yet. ps i updated my plans list.

update: well its been quite some time since ive updated but ive been busy both with my car and getting my girlfriend into her own benz. my beautiful rims are off the car because my friend hit a curb destroying the front right rim beyond repair. luckily no damage was done to the car itself but i dont know what im going to do about rims. on the good side i have located and repaired some of the other things that were bugging me and even done a few upgrades. the repetetive noise i was talking about was the front right bearing going bad so thats been taken care of. also got the drag link replaced and next step on that front is an alignment and sway bar bushings. one problem ive been trying to track down is periodic o2 sensor light which causes the engine to run poorly when its on. ive replaced the sensor to no avail but jiggling the ECU seems to take care of it for now so thats back burner as well. my sound system is finally starting to grow as i have a nice new JVC head unit with 6" sony xplods in the rear and a hook up for playing mp3 player music and my psp music as well. I CAN PLAY VIDEO GAMES THROUGH MY CAR AUDIO AND IT SOUNDS AWESOME!! the front speakers will be replaced as soon as i find decent ones. i also have an amp and a sub on the way to top it off in the sound department:)

also need to get a tune up in somwhere and i could write a book of all the other stuff i need to do but the car is well worth it... 2700 miles since ive had it.

update: once again its been a while but a lot has happened. my girl friend has her own 78 240/300D now and ive actually been driving that since ive had a major problem with my car. the transmission recently had a yet unexplained problem causing the car to become stuck in second gear once its been driven for a while, this is the only time the car has left me stranded but its still as fun to drive as ever on the short trips i take it out on. since its not really worth trying to figure out whats wrong with the current transmission ive written it off and already found what looks to be a good one online and have sent out for it. in the mean time ive built up quite a load of parts i have yet to put in. i have replaced the antenna mast though and the spark plugs which was the first step to a tune up, hopefully the rest wont be far behind if my bank account can survive the new transmission. it think i forgot to mention in the last post that i went junk yard shopping and fount very nice wood trim to replace mine as well as new switches and an ac control unit. the cars around 3300 miles and once the trans goes in ill be doing another oil change. P.S. my friend did a number on his blue coupe... but its back on the road now with some white body panels. not bad considering the damage done, this means that mine is now the better looking of the two.jpglover's 1987 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
