2006 Tail Light Conversion

Since my truck is all red, I thought the 2006 Tail Lights would look great on it. The biggest problem was that the 2006 is designed for 2 bulb operation (Brake/Turn Signal & Reverse) and my 1999 was designed for 3 bulb operation (Brakes, Turn Signal, Reverse), Otherwise, the mounting is the same:

Looking at the rear, I noticed there seemed to be a third light hole that just wasn't being used. Hmmm, a potential turnsignal slot?:

So I went to Pick-n-Pull in search of a bulb socket that would be shallow enough to fit in that empty slot, as the factory 1999 turn signal bulb wouldn't fit in the hole. I found the GM Socket seemed like it would fit the best, as it recessed the bulb in the socket more, and didn't protrude in to the slot as much. So I began cutting with the dremel:

The GM socket had a foam gasket, and the factory socket had a rubber gasket, so I switched out the foam one in favor of the rubber one, and spliced in the new socket:

Now, it would be great if the other two sockets fit right into the new lens, but the reverse socket didn't. I lucked out though, because the old turn signal socket I replaced fit the 2006 reverse slot perfect. So I swaped out the connectors, and sockets. Installed everything, and it worked perfectly!

And just how good do they look?
