My shift cable snapped a while ago. I had to get it towed back to my dorm parking lot so i could work on it. What i found out is that the cable basically bent itself and made it impossible to shift out of whatever gear it was in. If i tried to shift it harder, it would pop out of the grommet attatched to the bracket on the steering column.

Anyways here's a writeup on how to fix it:

And here are the pictures of basically how it broke:

Here you can see how it bent at the beginning of the cable.

Here is a zoomed in pic of one of the parts that broke on it. Notice how that flared end is suppose to be inside of the other end, however since that other end is basically demolished, there is nothing for it to hold on to and therefore leads to no shifting.

And here is a totally zoomed out picture to show you everything that went wrong. The red part connects to the shift lever on the transmission, the green part is the grommet that seals the firewall, the blue part is basically what broke, the yellow part is what got bent and not allowed me to shift, and the grey part is the part that goes into the bracket on the steering column which was bent as well which made it slip out of the bracket not allowing me to have any shifting capabilities at all.

Here's a picture of the diagram above, just without the colors so you get a better idea of what it all looked like.
