I was bored one day so i decided to whip out the template of my gages and make a white face for them. I did this in photoshop and if you want to know how to make them google it or if you ask me nicely i might tell ya.
To start with i took my instrument panel out of the car, then i went back in my house because it was FREEZING!
Then i laid it on the pool table lol
Now i started to take off the cover, it is held on by a couple (i think its 5) T-20 screws. I used a T-20 screwdriver. You can use a ratchet with a T-20 bit or the screwdriver, it really doesnt matter.
Here's the instrument panel with the covers taken off
To take the black cover off, all you need to do is remove this black cap over the odometer then just pull the black cover right off.
Now take a look at the back of that black cover... you see all that gunk garbage? I threw it away, you can keep it. I dunno what it does, probably keeps moisture out of the instrument cluster but all it did was make a HUGE mess on my hands, and the paper i was dealing with. After i ditched this gasket wash the gages, the cover, and your hands multiple times; because if you start handling things after you touched that, they will have a nasty orange/brown pigment on it, and your white face gages with this nasty pigment on it doesnt look good at all.
Now here is the naked instrument cluster
You cant just pull out the gages, at least not yet. There are MORE T-20 screws that hold each gage in. Just look for them and you'll see them.
Here is a pic of the gage with it out of the cluster
Now you need to take the needle off to access the gage face. To do this you could use pliers but i like the fork, since it prys off the needle. It may take a bit of umphing to get it off but some come off easy, but others are a PITA.
Heres a pic of the gage naked without the needle
And heres a pic of the gage without a face vs a gage with a face
After thats all done, just (clear) glue the white face gage back on and reverse the process to install.
Heres what mine looked like when it was all finished
Since photoshop couldnt single out the blinker arrow i had to find a image of an arrow on the web and then i had to size it down. Also note the warning text, make sure EACH ONE is ALIGNED correctly so that the text lights up and not just the paper.
Here's what it looks like with EVERYTHING all put back on including the black and clear cover
The biggest flaw in this was probably the odometer because since they were square and out in the open the cutting edge flaw couldnt be hidden by the black panel and cutting it with scissors proved extremely difficult so i used a utility knife since my x-acto knives got thrown away (stupid clean-up). They did a lot better than scissors but still dont look good enough for me, but i can live with it.
If you've read this far i guess i'll bless you with a WARNING: If you are going to do this then expect your gages to be off a little bit, and if you dont know how to adjust them, expect some non working/non accurate gages. I thought i knew how to adjust them and stuff but i only ended up having 3 non functional gages.... at least my speedo works lol. I'll fix it all one day.
