Alright, now something I have been putting off for awhile. Probably way too long actually...because it let me know with a nice little squirt on my garage floor. BAD REAREND! NO!....worse than my damn dogs.

This is how NOT to store a rearend, or differential. If there is no diff, your okay of course. There is an overflow tab on the top of the diff with a cap on it and it leaked out of there since it was titled back to this angle.

This is what we had to start with.

So off come the rear brakes and lines.

Then the PB Blaster to help with the rear suspension bolts. Then my roomate and I removed all the rear arms and RUCA's.

And oh noes, I dont have anything to get the axle nut off...wo we remove the whole fuggin thing.

Spindle, hub, LCA's, axles...all in one. It was alot easier this way. Now I can just take em across the street and take em apart with air tools at a friends.

Uh-oh...not again. Oh noes!! I dont have a 3/4" adapter or ratchet! DAMMIT!! I had it all setup on this nice little rig to drain it....oh well.

So since my floor already has crap all over it...flip it over and remove the sway bar I say! Then take out the nuts & bolts holding the diff housing in place.

Disassembled.

So there she is...pretty nasty and dirty.

MMmmm...maple syrup. I took the diff cover bolts out in a criss cross pattern as recommended and then pull the cover from the bottom to drain the oil. This is course not necessary if you have the proper tools....time to go tool shopping.

The crappy, unpredictable open diff.

As seen here..I give it a big thumbs down. I will now tear apart the differential and clean it all, have it welded. The tear down follows on the next page.
