BODY DROP STORY:
Project Mayhem_ Layn-Body-N-Da-Desert
In the summer July 04. I started doing a 3 Traditional Body Drop on my 96 s-10 Ext Cab 2.2 cly built for 20s.
I wanted to do a stock floor, but nor time or money or no lift would allow me to do it
I thought this project was going to take a couple of weeks( Thats what I told my buddy the shop owner), but it took a lot longer than I expected. Time was against me, I was trying to finish the truck while being a full time student and no daily driver.
I finished the cab around September and I am working on putting interior pieces back in.
I just finished the bed and it will be spryaed in line-x also.
At the time this was my only vehicle, I rolled to the shop in my wheelchair for 2 months back and forth 2 miles round trip from my house and the shop. I hitched rides with people when it rained or at night. It gets so frekin hot down here in the desert that I could bring canned soup for lunch and that Sh%t would be hot buy the time I got to the shop, Ha ha no microwave needed.
I am sure people thought I was homeless or something because when I rolled home I was pretty dirty and In shop clothes Ha ha O well I enjoyed the stares I knew I would finish my truck soon. Dam wheelchair tires suck though, too many flats, I need slime.
This truck has been through Sh*t, to make a long story short bought it brand new in 1996, til to date, the head has been replaced 5 times, tranny twice, Rear-ended 2 times, first time Nov. 2002, Second Oct 2003, both times it was not my fault and by women drivers, it has had 4 different rear bed setups because people keep rear ended my dang truck( ex. 2 different Roll pans, w/lights. Skin, shaved, leds)
The first time baged it was done crapy and I got ripped off, so we had to re do everything.
When i found a new bed i got one at a junk yard for a good price or so i thought, brought it home, loooked it over and found that there was more crapy body work and bondo on it than your local body shop. THus i had to get a different bed from antoher junk yard and this one was in great shape and they did not give me my money back at that other place just a credit, i got screwed!!
I guess some people learn the hard way!
If I was too the bd again I wish I would have a daily driver, but the sacrifice was well worth it when I took it off the jack stands and it laid body. I would do a stock floor next time.
***Sorry so much info, but there is a lot behind this project as you all know every project has its stories.
You guys can put me on Extreme Makeover Mini Truck Edition, because I know it is a touching story ha ha. I wish they had that show
