augdog1230's 1986 Honda CRX

My 86' Crx. It is unmodified, except for a custom stereo and trunk interior I built out of mdf and carpeted. It also houses the subwoofer enclosure. B&M T-Bar shifter, GT Grant steering wheel.

Mids & Tweeters :

With most things, I tend to lean towards consumer products that have been good to me in the past. I have never owned any Kicker products, so purchasing the set of comps was a big step
(the price was also a big step :-o ~$250can 2004 model) No regrets here, the midranges are very clear and transient, no problems reaching down into the 200Hz area with authority,
(I know) but for 5"... these can put out fair bass. *They will bottom out at very low bass passages at a high listening level, however this is to be expected*
The Tweeters are also consistant, the highs are clear, not too brilliant, yet are very ambient and live. Due to an error in sound-staging on my part, they can at times 'hiss' the S's in certain songs although this is neglidgeable and does not detract from the over all listening experience.

Subwoofer :

Listening to a sine-sweep as it makes its way down to 20 Hz and below and actually feeling the seats and steering wheel vibrate violently from the PR weights is something. They act similar to Tactile Transducers, a 'Bass-Shaker' is a common form of this. It is quite apt in the 30 to 200Hz frequency range, then gently rolls off in the 290Hz area. Anything below 20Hz and it becomes a 'Bass-Shaker' It blends in nicely as the K5.2's midranges roll off at 200Hz or so. My friend and I were playing bass tests, and put on the Boston Acoustics 'Woofer Cooker' (this is no joke), turned volume up to 38 out of 40 on my H.U, Sub Amp 9/10 Gain. Just above 20Hz, He started laughing, and told me that his ears were leaking water.

Thank You for viewing!

Soon to come :
- Alpine MRD-M1005 Mono Subwoofer Amplifier
- Alpine Type-X SWX-1242 12" Subwoofer
- 2 x 1 Farad Monster Intellicaps
- AC Delco 1150 CA (850 CCA) Battery
