This is my previous car, a 1994 Ford Escort MTX. I put this car through hell, and it kept on going, and, as far as I know, is still running (when I gave it to the junkyard, they sold it to some guy, and I have frequently seen it driving around). The ONLY mechanical problem I have EVER had whith this car, with the exception of things that I have caused, and the alternator, was the leaking transmission, and that didn't start till about 173K was on the clock. Other than that, the car performed perfectly. When I got rid of it, there was 180K on the clock, and there were never any mechnical problems with it and it had been in my family since the beginning.

This car came off the lot completely un-equipped. It had no stock radio/CD player or speakers. It didn't have power steering. No power windows, not even a passenger-side mirror. This was the lightest possible Escort you could get, so maybe that's why it was KINDA quick, especially for its measly 88 horsepower. Then consider that I went from that to my fully-loaded 220 hp Taurus SHO. Quite an upgrade. And I almost had a 300 hp Cadillac STS, but the head gasket blew.

This was the day the Escort was towed off to the junkyard. I put alot of time and money into this car since I bought it.

Here are some pics of the Escort after my first accident. This was the reason I was forced to buy it (it was not mine at the time of the accident). This accident happened when I was going to work, and decided to change the radio station. Bad idea. A van was stopped in front of me, and I haden't noticed till I was about 20 feet behind it (I was going probably 25-35 mph). I'm surprised the Escort came out with as little damage as there was (The van came out with a scratch in the rear bumper, go figure). The only mechanical problem from this accident was a leaking radiator, nothing else.

Here are some pics of when I hit a curb going about 15-20 mph, in a parking lot. This happened when I was coming home from work and took a turn a little too quick for the road conditions. I tried to hit the brakes, but they locked up the front wheels, which is probably why I hit the curb. The car actually drove for about 1/4 of a mile after I hit the curb. I backed down off the curb and started to drive home. Then when I hit the brakes and tried to turn at a stop light, I heard a thunk, and that was it. Had to be towed home 2 miles. Apparently, when I turned the wheel that final time, that was what finally broke the CV shaft. And with a stock differential, all the power goes to the wheel with least resistance, which in this case, was nowhere with the shaft broken.

You can see the broken halfshaft and can kinda see the bend in the control arm.

This is the wheel. You can kinda see the huge dent in the rim, which surprisingly did not cause the tire to pop or deflate at all, even from the impact of the curb, which was enough to dent the rim. I didn't repair that dent or inflate the tire at all, and drove home on it 30 miles after I fixed the car. Bumpy ride though.

Incidents that have happened with the Escort:

First, I hit the van.

Then I spun out on a turn and hit a telephone pole, BARELY.

Then I hit the curb.

This isn't really a stupid thing that I did with this car, but one day on the way to work (maybe I should stop going to work, seeing as that is where most of my "incidents" have occured) my front left wheel decided to fall off, while I was driving. I put it back on and drove on to work.

Got some air......We'll just leave it at that...
