On Sunday, May 23, 2004 with 127,791 miles on the odometer, my original 2.5L Duratec engine suffered from a catastrophic valve failure. A valve snapped off and punctured a hole in the #3 piston, which led to the engine's demise.
It turned out that upgrading to a 3L would be cheaper than replacing the 2.5L engine. So naturally, the more powerful 3L was the way to go.

Overall, the project took just over one full weekend with 3 guys working 12 hour days (Thank you Todd and Steve!). Once the SVT intake manifold, throttle-body, and larger air filter were installed, the car was dyno'd: 189FWHP/186FWTQ. Throttle response is very impressive, and the torque really makes driving entertaining. This was a grueling experience, but well worth the results!
