1988-1989
I changed the gear set to 3.55 posi, and took it to Carlsbad Raceway up the coast below Oceanside, close to MCRD.

The combo was working well, and my reaction was almost perfect. I tryed on some slicks, I borrowed from Dick Walker, friend that had a 69 Roadrunner that was running in the low 12's.
Best with the AVS was around 13.58 @ 101. for me.
I took allot of advice from Dick, as he was a regular at the track and our club scene. He gave me the cam idea, and some other specs.
I made some bad decisions that didn't work at all. Headers for one and 4.56 gears. I'd run out of power at half track.
I think with all the stock stuff and a torque monster cam, the power became flat after 5300 rpm. It didn't have much more than that, so I went back to original combo.
3 aftermarket things I went to for more consistent times were, a 3000 stall Artcar converter, trans go -2 shift kit, and Mallory electronic distributor.
I put the Charger on a truck scale and it was 4080lbs with me in it. Muscle Car National was coming up in Sep of 1989, and I needed something to brake into the low 13's and here it is, the only pic I have of a Sixpac in my Charer.

I borrowed it from Dick, and I stuck a E body 3.54 Dana 60 in it from a junkyard. It's time to see what it can do...

Well you could have shot me out of a cannon, because it woke up the engine more than anything else.
I'd rev it to 3000 with my foot on the brake, (light hit green) and I smashed the gas to the floor. Hit about 5400rpm at the end and I had to work like hell to get the thing stoped!
Hence the new 11' brakes on all for corners.
13.20 @ 103
Still worked on timing, plugs, tire pressure, put the headers back on, and ran 104 race gas.
This was my best pass and it happend to a guy called Hollywood.
A regular street racer and big talker, he ran a 340 Sixpac under his barracuda hood and a 4 speed trany.
On any given day he was doing high 12sec runs, so I knew it would be a problem to beat him. But this day the old Charger didn't let me down.
THE KILL
I did a massive burn out for show and staged a tad deeper than normal. I stared at the lights as they clicked off to green. The Charger riped down the 60ft like it was only 30, he was way behind as he played catch up. I slammed 2nd with a bam and peek horse power was in play now. I could see his face red as a brick coming on strong, trying like hell to catch me. I hit 3rd as the track end was coming up, he was door handle to door handle with me. At the end he blew past me, but it was to late I recorded the win. 13.04 @104
He lost, it was a day late and a dollar short.
At the pits he was yelling at me to get back in line, so I did.
This time he did a masive burn out to try to get some advantage off the line. He must have dumped his clutch at 6000rpm because his rear end couldn't take it and scattered diff parts all on the ground.
I chuckled and did a nice by run.
