Welcome to my 69 Dodge Charger page

cudahob's 1969 Dodge Charger

Yeah that's me back in 1983 age 16; I lived in La Mesa Calif.
I was a sophomore in High School, when I told my Mother I needed a car for auto shop.

I could easy ride my bike to HS, so this was the excuse I came up with.

The Dukes of Hazzard was my favorite show on TV, so I knew what I wanted up front.

I looked up Dodge in the San Diego Union paper early in 1983. There I saw an add for a 1969 Charger. The guy (a mailman) came right over with the Charger and I didn't have to think twice.

$500. cash was exchanged and I had my first car.
I had my permit to drive, so every morning my Mom let me drive it to school and she drove it back home.

It had headers and glass packs, with a 383 2v, 727/ 8 3/4 2.76.
It was so loud I could here it coming 2 blocks a way. My Mum was 5ft 2 and it was funny to see her peeking over the wheel with an engine that sounded mean.

At almost 17 I could drive it myself. I took all the Auto shop classes that were offered in HS. Mr. Leer was my auto shop teacher, (Chevy guy) he let us work on our cars most of the time. Some book work but mostly hands on.

Great group of guys, we had a super shop and we played jokes on each other all the time. Little wild sometimes, especially after school. Most of us gear head did BIG burn outs as we left the parking lot every day.

Try and do that today. I did a water burn out one day that I heard about the next day. Mostly thumbs up, "cool dude."

During HS I changed the 2v to a 4v carburetor and replace the header with new ones. It had a bad axle bearing and I replaced it in the HS shop. Also put chrome traction bars on it.
