Drag Racing Clip from 6/16/06

9/22/06: The new gear really helped out, here is few pic's from recent trip. The Ford GT ran a 12.1 @120 but not as quick as Rodney's red coupe that went a new best 11.96 @112. I ran a new personal best of 14.20 @98.43 on a crappy 2.20 60' time. I'm improving though which is good...

6/16/06: Well I made it back to the track this past friday and oh what a difference a good set up supsension can make. In addition to the above mods I also installed a Wysco electric fan that night before the races. It really worked well and freed up some ponies, I also set the valves as I have solid lifters and corrected my WOT so the secondaries would open all the way on the Holley 600 dp. Well here is my new best et slip.. I picked up of 9/10's of a second and over 5mph w/ the mods I did. My 60 ft times are improving. I had a best of
2.336 still on street radials.

I took some video so hopefully I can post it shortly on here as well.

Just picked me up some BFG G-Force T/A drag radials 215/60/14 from a buddy, who knows maybe next time I'll be knocking on 13's... I also got me a nice 8" trak-loc w/ 3.80
gears w/ later model case and 4 pinion instead of 2 set up..
should handle some serious power.

5/19/06: Went to the local dragstrip recently in Commerce, Ga. It's the Atlanta Dragway. Had a blast w/ some buddies, enjoy the pic's.
Car ran good for the few performance mods have done to it. All I know is that it takes a heck of alot more to run 14's than most people think. I won't believe anybody unless they show me some slips. Most the guys at the track that were running mid
14's or faster had drag slicks. I ran full street tires and all.
Here are some of me and my buddies car. His Stang is much faster than mine. That night he ran a best 12.12 @109+.

Well I did learn some things, a close ratio 4sp is probably not the trans to have for dragging. It has 2.32 1st gear ratio compared to the T-5 I have in the garage w/ a 3.35 1st. The launch was for sure the hardest part. I found that about 2500 rpm off the line worked the best for me and easying out the clutch. I had bad wheelhop my first run when the tires broke loose. My r/t's were good, out of five races only one guy beat me off the tree. He cut a cray -.014
light, my best for the night was a .140 w/ a high of .356. My engine did good for what it is, which is mostly stock. Has
stock crank, rods and heads. That's right no porting , no bigger valves. It has factory size 1.78 int and 1.45 exhaust.
Also the cam is a unknown factor. Engine was built in 1993
in high school and don't even remember what kind it is or spec's. It's pretty mild though. I shifted at right at 5k and she was all out of steam at that point. Dropped shifted points down to 4700 on one run and lost et.

My timeslip to prove it all car L2067
My best time was 15.45 @91.7 mph. I'm happy w/ that for now as it was better than my last time to the track by 4/10's. Got to get me some better heads and some slicks. My 60' foot times were awful. I could only manage a 2.606. That's not good. Rule of thumb for every 1/10 off your 60' you gain 2/10 at the 1320.
I saw this for real on my last run as I did just that for the best of the night.

MODS: Well I picked up some Weld draglites w/ Kumho 165/80/15
skinnies for the next trip to the track, just had to put them on and go for a spin. I also did a few mod's to the supsension to hopefully improve my 60'times. First I replaced
my kyb gas adjust shocks w/ these 9-way adjustable Rancho 9000"s
pn#RSN 99204. I should be able to dial in a stiffer setting to really plant the tires. I also installed spring clamps on the front half of the leaf springs to try and reduce any axle wrap which leads to wheelhop. Not pictured I put in front
Competition Engieering 90/10 Drag shocks for quick extension and better weight transfer. We will soon see if it pays off.
