As sweet as candy
This is a 1999 VW Mk1 Sonic golf I bought in the beginning of 2002 as a demo model from the car dealer. Since acquiring her, there have been many hours and hard work put in, to get her as good looking. There aren't to many huge changes (most are normal changes people do when modding cars), but the precision and planning that has been put into everything, destinguishes her from all the others.
Under the hood the only surgery that has been performed is the 45mm 4-2-1 branch with a 45 mm wildcat freeflow exhaust and a Simota cone air filter. The reason for the little performace upgrades are simple : Big upgrades = huge power = heavy fuel consumption = More money and that is one big problem for me. So hopefully in the near future when my boat comes in, I can afford the power upgrades that is seriously over due for Sonic.
Sound wise. I have a Pioneer DEH-1400 headunit that powers an Audiobank EQ-5 pre-amp that send through the correct voltage 2 the 2 amplifiers.
The 1 amplifier is an Audiobank PA2900 model that puts out at 2 OHMS Mono 1000W X 2 of RMS is used to power the JL Audio 15w3v2 that pounds like hell in the sealed enclosure. The amp also comes with a sub control mounted in the front of the car that allows you to control the exact amount of thumping you need.
The other amp is a also Audiobank silver edition 1000w 4 channel that is used to power the Ultimate 6.5" splits mounted in the front door and dash that provides te right vocals and finer tunes. The other 2 channels of the amp is used to power the Pioneer 5-way 6x9's of 500 watt that is seriously loud in such a small car.
All this power is provided by a 652 battery which is a fairly bigger battery than the previous 618 battery. The power is given through 16mm2 power cable (One power cable for each amp)
At the last competion that was entered the car had a reading of 137.2 db's (1 week after installation) that is very little for the potential that it has, so needless to say that many hours still has to be spent to fine tune everything to get it working properly. (Which I still haven't done)
I'll keep you updated to any new developments.
Hope you enjoy it and please let me know what you think. Any ideas are also welcome.
PS - The picture is out dated since many changes occured since this picture was taken. Will post some more pictures shortly
