The only modifications I originally made to this car after I got it was the sound setup. I did this mainly cuz the original speakers (OEM) had almost completely rotted (they were never used by the original owner). So I had to replace. Below I have some pictures of my current setup. Here is the summary of what I have:
Head Unit:
Panasonic MXE CQ-C9801U, 31 watts RMS/70 peak x 4
OEM replacements:
JBL 5x7 2-ways, 70W - upper front dash
Pioneer 6x9 3-ways, 220W - rear deck
New additions:
Pioneer 5.25 2-ways, 130W - lower front doors
SPL tweeters, plus crossovers - front / under seats
Pyramid 30W 7-band equalizer - under front middle dash
Trunk:
300W Lanzar Amplifier
One 12" Infinity sub in a single bandpass box
1.5 Fared Phoenix Digital Capacitor
Accessories:
Delphi MyFi XM Radio - mounted to vent left of HU
Precision Interface Electronics Line Driver / Pre-Amplifier - under middle front dash
Noise Filter added to HU - mounted underneath HU
My sound setup is pretty basic, I don't have anything like ground-shaking subs or amps, or anything of that nature. Two reasons for that; first, not really interested in that, and, that much equipment adds too much weight, and the car has enough weight.
At first, I was kind of reluctant to buy an aftermarket head unit, as I was satisfied with my factory unit. That was until a friend of mine got one. I really liked the fact that it could play MP3 CD's – that meant I wouldn't have to keep all my CD's in the car anymore, plus I could have a lot a music with very little room being taken up. Below are a few shots of my head unit:
Another friend of mine had XM radio, and we always had fun listening to the Bone Yard while having late night drives, so I wanted to get XM as well. Not long after I decided, I saw the MyFi appear. I jumped on it and ordered it as soon as I could, and it arrived the day after they were released. Here is the head unit with the XM unit hooked up:
And, speaking of XM, here is a close-up shot of the antenna on the trunk:
Here are some shots of the EQ I have setup (which was moved from underneath the front seats):
On a rare occasion, when this EQ is on, it will create pink noise in-between tracks, and when the radio is switched on. I don't turn it on much though. It's real purpose is to allow me to control the fade on the side door speakers that I added.
Below is a shot of the passenger door speaker (with the door panel off):
Below are pictures of the driver side tweeter (mounted on a-pillar) and crossover (under front seat) – there is one of each on the passenger side as well:
Unfortunately, over the last year, both tweeters died on me – first the driver side, then the passenger; but I will be replacing those soon, and probably adding a set in the rear as well.
The only thing I don't like about my Panasonic head unit is the extremely low line-level volume on the 2 auxiliary inputs. So, I had to get something to boost it for my XM player. Here is a close-up of the line level booster (the unit with the white label on the left, the other thing is my 3-port DC outlet):
Now, onto the trunk. Here are pictures of my amp and capacitor, both during the day and at night:
And finally, a shot of the capacitor mounted to the box, and a full shot of my sub enclosure with everything attached to it:
I believe the sound setup in this car is pretty much complete as it is (except for the tweeters I mentioned above). For the time being, I really see no reason why I need to add anything else. I like the setup I have, it sounds good to me, and isn't overdoing it.
