At this point in time, I have added many things to the interior of the car, mainly to improve, fix, or add options that this car did not have. First thing I wanna show is my most favorite interior mod -- a Transformers Decpticon air freshener (well, it's really not an air freshener anymore, as it is 7 years old, but I left it cuz it's a really awesome decoration):
First off, I have changed almost all the interior lights from incandescent bulbs to LED bulbs (outside as well, but more on page 7). Below is a shot of the LEDs in the dome, during the day (left) and at night (right):
Here are a couple shots of white LEDs in the glove box and ash tray:
Now, the LEDs are not as bright as the incandescent bulbs, but I have made up for that by adding a few more interior lights. I started by adding something I wanted, but never got in this trim level for this LeSabre – courtesy lights in the doors. So, when I had my entire interior out, I added those lights. The nice thing was the doors already had the indentations for the lights, all I had to do was cut the holes, add the light housings, and run wiring:
I finished that off by added rear floor lights (which currently have no housings):
Together, at night:
To spice things up (and to kind of match my aftermarket head unit), I added blue LEDs to the instrument cluster:
Because it was an easy to do mod, I added the b-pillar/seatbelt covers from a Park Avenue to my LeSabre. The two major differences between them are that the PA panels have a pleather covering (instead of just plain vinyl), and have that ledge/bulge that matches with the front and rear armrests on the doors:
I'm so glad so many parts from PA's fit the LeSabre's.
Other small things I added were a trunk carpet from a Bonneville (top left), Pioneer speaker grills to the rear deck (top right), APC pedal coverings (bottom left), and a rear-view mirror with map/reading lights (bottom right):
Below is a picture showing the little black box that is used to make the front windows go down automatically. This is wired to the front passenger door, allowing that window to go down automatically, something which this car (and many of it's time, did not have). :
One note about it though, my brother was the one that wired it, so I have no idea what wires it's spliced into, so I can't help with questions on that.
Here is a picture of my 3-port DC outlet, with an on/off switch, that replaces my old 4-port (also, my line level booster for my head unit's aux port is seen next to it):
Now following are interior mods I had not added on my previous layout. The first being a Park Avenue headliner that I added near the end of August '07. It is complete with handles and working lights (but are not wired to the same circuit as the floor/courtesy lights, so they do not come on when the door is opened):
Also, the first picture of the above group shows the vanity sun visors that I also took off a Park Avenue (mainly to replace my broken driver's side sun visor – the original LeSabre visors did not have mirrors). The reason I put in the PA headliner was because my original was starting to sag, and I thought instead of trying to fix it, I'd just replace it (since I wanted the handles anyway). But I will tell ya, it was a severe pain getting that headliner installed (my gripes about it can be found on page 12).
Below are shots of the console and vanity lights, plus the rear hook lights at night:
Also, I recently replaced my c-pillar/sail panels, because the old ones were badly torn and sagging (those pics can be found on page 13):
Those gaps above the panels are a result of an incorrect installation of the headliner. Let's say, I should have measured before I decided to cut things – more on page 12 – but I will eventually take care of it.
Also, recently, I replaced the control panels on both front doors. The old ones had a lot of black paint missing, and some of the chrome on the buttons were gone. Here are shots comparing them – driver (left) and passenger (right):
Also, as you can see, I added 'Auto' switches to all the front power window switches. Below is a further shot of the driver panel:
And, to add to the 'chrome-ness' of this LeSabre, I replaced all the levers on the steering column from black to chrome (from a PA) – shifter, turn-signal, and tilt:
My brother just shakes his head at the amount of chrome that I have added to this vehicle, and I just laugh. Also, something I haven't mentioned, and don't really have a clear shot of, is my steering cover (which has seen better days) – it can be seen partly in the above pictures.
--- NEW MODS BELOW ---
Well, today (7.19.08), I didn't have a whole lot going on, and was kind of bored, so I decided to dig into my car. I had originally wanted to try out another set of door panels (more on page 10), but I wound up adding a few things this car didn't have before.
First, my LeSabre, being the lowest model Custom, did not come with many options the Limited's and Park Avenues came with – such as the door courtesy lights, and only 4 speakers. Well, over time, I added more speakers, like door speakers, and tweeters, which are included in the 6-speaker Concert Sound II setup. Now, I don't have that setup, but I have enough speakers, and I finally decided to put something in place that shows I have door speakers:
I swapped out my door carpet with the panels from doors that had the Concert Sound II panels. Now, I don't have the openings for the tweeters (as I was not cutting that), but next time I'm at a junk yard, I'm going to try and find door panels in beige, from a Limited, that has the sound setup, and mount the factory tweeters in there (my SPL's are now dead and useless).
The other thing I added was lighting to the reflectors at the end of the doors. I already had the wiring from the other door panels, and when I put in the courtesy lights, I kept the wiring harness for the lights, so it was just a simple plug in. Here are shots at dusk and at night:
Kind of a nice addition. I have red LED's on order, so I should be getting those sometime within the week, and get rid of those hot incandescent light bulbs. As I've said before, there are a few more things I will be adding over time, but I go into full detail about those on page 10.
