Updates At Bottom

************************************************************

Since I have been asked this many times, I'm putting the link to where my friend (who originally bought the spoiler) bought the spoiler from:

Universal Rear Spoiler (JCWhitney.com)

I don't know why I've never posted this before, guess I just kept forgetting.  I'm posting it here because it'll always be there, and it's hard to post such a large link in the guestbook.

************************************************************

One thing to always help a vehicle stand out is how different it looks on the outside, compared to other vehicles. As most know, for many different types of cars, the easiest way to do this is with some type of body kit. And, anyone driving a LeSabre know they don't exist for those cars (not that I would want one on my car – the thought of it kind of makes me cringe). But, I did want it to stand out from the other LeSabre's around town (and there are a lot).

First off, the dual exhaust did help a lot (but will not be focused on this page, turn to page 3 for more info), as did the PIAA fog lights (focused more on page 7). Beyond the exhaust though, there was little I could do, without a ton of modifying, to make it look different than a normal LeSabre. After looking around for awhile, I noticed that I could start putting parts from other cars – mainly Park Avenue's – to give a slightly new look.

Here, on this page, I'll show and discuss all the exterior mods that I have done so far, with the newest additions being added to the bottom of the page.

Actually, before the exhaust, one thing I did add was a low profile wing/spoiler to the car. Now, for those who haven't seen it, don't cringe yet, as it does not look that bad on the car. Well, before the pictures, a little history on why I decided to add it (as it has no performance effect on the car, even at high speeds). Many people that personally know me, might remember how much I used to gripe about not being able to tell where the back of the car is, because the trunk curves down at the back (unlike a PA). I always wanted something back there so I could see better. Well, a few years back, a friend of mine told me he had bought a universal spoiler for his car, but wasn't going to use it anymore. So, I bought it from him for $75, and then got some paint, and my brother and I primed, painted, clear-coated, and wet-sanded the wing, and my dad helped install it. The moment it was on, I instantly realized how awesome it was. Enough talk, here are some pics:

I don't have any full body shots with it for this page, but there are plenty of pictures on page 9.

Well, I soon saw some pictures of what the 2003 Park Avenue's had come with – portholes. I thought they would add a very nice touch to the car, so I got myself a set. Also to note, I was the first person in town to have them added on (there was a PA with them on, but that was factory). I know they are just stick-ons, and don't provide any real function, but they do look nice. Also, I've been seeing a boom of stick-on portholes – many different varieties, and on more cars now than just Buicks (and I've noticed car companies have started actually adding functional fender vents in many of their vehicles now – I wonder if Buick started something?). A close up:

After the portholes, the Park Avenue parts were being added to this car like crazy. First in this batch, are the Buick emblems on the c-pillars (left), and the PA grille (right):

And, for the last of the Park Avenue mods, is the fender and hood trim. This was a pretty easy mod, too. The one thing I hated about this car, was the lines of chrome trim seem to 'incomplete' all over the place – the trim that went around the windows and doors, and the trim that went around the bumpers, but not on the doors (more on that below). I noticed the PA's had trim on the fenders and hood that completed that window/door trim 'loop', so I grabbed those from a junk yard. The hood trim was easy, it just slid on – the fender trim pieces weren't as easy. See, the PA fenders had holes in them for the trim, the LeSabre's don't. So I had to glue them on, which wasn't a big deal. But I'm happy that is complete:

Also, finally in December of 2006, I got my windows tinted. This was something I wanted ever since I bought the car, but just never got around to it. Here are shots of it on the outside and inside:

Interesting story thought, when I got to the place, they told me all they had in stock was 20% tint (pretty dark stuff). I didn't care, so I told them to go ahead. Well, turns out 50% is the legal limit for front windows in Ohio. Well, I found that out one afternoon in July '07 – got myself pulled over. I got off with a warning, but I had to remove the tint. I thought about it, but didn't, so I still have it. I got pulled over on the interstate, and since the local cops haven't harassed me, I just avoid as much interstate travel as I can in this car now.

Now that the LeSabre was starting to look more like a sports luxury vehicle, I wanted some different wheels, but couldn't afford (and still can't) a nice set of aftermarket rims, so I found a nice set of 5-spoke 16-inch Pontiac rims in a junkyard for $20 a piece. I have them wrapped in B.F. Goodrich Touring T/A 215/60R16 tires:

The only thing I don't like are those black center caps, but I usually don't think about them too much.

Now, this really isn't a visual mod, but I still consider it an exterior mod. Well, one day in summer of 2007, after a guy had pulled out in front of me, then slammed his brakes, and to avoid hitting him, I had to swerve out into the other lane (oncoming traffic) – but luckily the person in the other lane saw this, and stopped. I was so angry, that I wanted to do something that would make sure people would notice me – and that came in the form of a set of compressor driven, 120 dBa air horns, now mounted behind the grille:

And they are hooked up to an old-fashioned horn button, mounted to my lower dash:

I tell ya, those things are ultra LOUD – enough to make you deaf in you stand in front of them too long with them going off. Also, it's funny, that night after I put them in, I was going to a friend of mine's place, and on the way there, this half-brained, shirtless, redneck in his old Ford pick-up was driving right down the middle of the road. Well, I hit that button, and it took him no time to notice me, and he got over. I just laughed in excitement, knowing how well they worked.

For now, the last exterior mod, which I just finished, to the car – completing the trim 'loop' around the bumpers and doors. LeSabre Custom's do not have it, but LeSabre Limited's do. The doors were easy, and I had gotten those done in less than an hour, but I did not have good fender pieces, so I went a couple months without:

Recently, I manged to find two good fender pieces, and after about an hour on each one, I got it done, completing the Limited look:

I like it much better now that all my chrome 'loops' are complete, and the car looks so much better because of it. I only have a few more exterior modifications that I actually want to do, but I discuss those in more detail on page 10.

Here is something I just added tonight (7.23.08):

V-6 emblems that I had grabbed off an old Pontiac Grand Am. I like collecting emblems – I don't know why, I just like too, and sometimes they come in handy. I've had these for awhile, but never did anything with them. I had been contemplating adding something to the front doors for awhile now, but just never did. Well, now I have. I think it looks cool, and doesn't over do it. I have a full shot of the car, but that emblem is hard to see on the camera from a distance, but it will be there now on all future pictures.

This time, on the bottom of my trunk lid, I put on a '3800 Tuned Port Injection' emblem that I had grabbed off an older Regal from the junk yard. Now, everyone knows exactly which engine I have in my Buick (I have a ton of those '3800 TPI' emblems – I always grab a bunch when I go to the junkyard).

It's cool man. I think im scrapping that idea anyway, cuz now I've got more important projects to deal with, and I need to start saving up for college. I am probably getting a 3800 series III L67 in the fall for college. It'll be all bored out and suped up to drop in when I graduate. Don't get excited though cuz that won't be for at least 5 years or so. lol

Hey man! Just stoppin by with another question for you. I remember reading about your attempts at trying to swap your custom guage cluster with a limited cluster. Do you know why it didnt work? I want to swap in a digital cluster. I saw one that fits perfectly but I dont want to spend $800 for it not to work lol Thanks!
