This is my 2000 miata, only had the car for about 3 weeks, and I've already made some progress. It's nice to actually have a car I can Mod, without having to worry about whether or not it'll break on me (I love extended warranties!) Both of my previous "tuner" cars were bad ideas from the beginning. First I rebuilt a totalled 87 rx7, then I bought a highly modded DSM (really, really bad idea!) Both of those cars went away pretty quickly, and I finally settled on a stock miata. It came through work (carmax), and I fell in love with it... black on black, great condition, good mileage, good price. So I jumped on it, and I'm very happy now. I'll update pics and list my mods as I go.
first mod was the wheels... I know they're 17's, and they slow me down a bit, but the car is still a blast to drive, and the larger tire contact patch makes a big difference in my handling. I think they look great on the car.
next mod was painting some interior stuff, I had considered a dash kit, but they can look sort of hokey, so I sanded, primed, based and clearcoated my radio and shifter surround, and also the armrest/console cover to match the exterior of the car. This wasn't a spray paint job, I work in a body shop so it's actual mazda black, with quality clear coat, just like the exterior of the car. Sorry it's a bit dirty, I'll get beter pics soon!
Here is the next thing I did. The bezels inside the headlights used to be chrome... I removed the headlights, put them in the oven, pulled them apart and sanded painted the bezels black. It completely changed the look of the car. This mod, along with the wheels, went a long way to remove the "girly" look of the car.
Right now, the only power mod the car has is an intake (I'll get pics later), my exhaust is on the way, and should be here this week. I'll post pics of both when I get the exhaust install completed. Till then... Happy Modding!
