Question: Should I restore original wheels and tires or buy big 5-spoke rimes with low-profile tires?

Pulling the 250 was pretty straight forward. Just take note (or pictures) of where all the wires/hoses are hooked so that when you install your new engine you know what wires/hoses go to what devices, and which you can scrap.

I hooked the chain from my engine lift around the manifold in the rear, and a bolt in the front. I don't know if this is good becuase cast iron is brittle, but I had no problems. One thing I didn't do that I should have, was undo the drive shaft. I am a total novice at this, I was learning as I was going. I didn't realize how easy it was to undo the universal joint and take out the drive shaft. Doing this would have been a lot easier than trying to pull the tranny off the driv shaft as it was haning on the engine hoist with the engine! Keep in mind the suspension will lift the front of the car once the hoist begins supporting the engine, in my case with the hoist fully lifted, the car had lifted so much that I could barely get the engine up over the front clip. Be sure to hook the lift as close the engine as possible when you start so it will be as high in the air as possible at full lift so it will clear the fenders on its way out.

Once I had the engine out I put a wire brush on an electric drill and started going at the rust in the engine compartment. don't be afraid to get right in there like I did, the cross member makes a nice seat! Undo everything you can off the firewall and fenders. I would've have undone even more had I known how easy things are to take off and reinstall.

After it was all scrubbed, I used POR-15's "Marine Clean" and "Metal Ready" to prep the rusty surfaces in the engine compartment before coating everything with POR-15 gloss black rust proof, chip-proof coating.

After degreasing and painting the 350, I attached the TH350 tranny and installed them together. It was pretty straight forward once I had the correct engine mounts. It is worth doing your research on the mounts, dont' just buy the mounts for the year of your car from a restoration catalog, there is safety reasons for using some of the later GM mounts.
