Welcome to my 89 Ford Escort GT web page. I bought my car new in 1989 when I was a senior in high school. I have loved it every since. Between my dad and I we put 214,000 miles on this car and have driven it all around the south and the northeast. My dad called me when the escort failed inspection in Atlanta and told me to get it out of his yard. I brought it to Alabama and drove it for a while. (we dont have vehicle inspections here yet) It started running really rough so I parked it for a couple of months. It was time to start on the rebuild and when I first pulled the engine head off I found the reason it ran so rough. 3 of the 4 exhaust valves were wasted. This started the 8 month process of rebuilding my first engine. All of this happened at 214,000 miles. Every day I would go home at lunch and pull another piece off of the motor or go pick up some parts from the store. I looked for a long time for high performance parts but at the time there were none to be found. That was one reason for the lengthly rebuild. After I got it running it had a miss in it and would surge from 500-1500rpm. I wound up replacing all of the electrical components under the hood and even went so far to create an adjustable Vane Airflow meter out of a Nissan one. None of these things solved the surging problem. Finally I tried to find a new computer for the car and nobody had a new one for sale. I went to all of the local parts stores and the dealerships and no luck. Then I found my new best friend. Pull-a-Part junk yard and my problems were solved. I found a new computer for about $35 and put it in and I was in business. The old computer I put behind my sub-box to keep it from sliding around in the back. It made an awesome wedge.
