Hot Rod Magazine Power Tour Pics
These are from the Hot Rod Power Tours we've been on. Please excuse the quality of the pics. They are retakes of originals.

This was taken the morning after we arrived in St. Louis,MO on our first Power Tour. Packed in the conversion van next to the Mustang was almost a spare Mustang. We took everything from a 9" center to carburetor and most parts in between. Every year we take less stuff. There is always a bunch of people willing to help if something comes up.

Probably the highlight of all the Power Tours was when we met Chris and Cara Woods and Roger and Nancy Cox. We were stuck in detours and bad traffic leaving Detroit. Between all of us we were able to make it out of that mess. What great people. That was in 2001. We went as far as Effingham,IL that year and then we long hauled with them in '02.

This is Roger and Nancy Cox's '67 Chevelle SS. It is all original. He has owned it since it was a year or two old. If I remember right I think it had 40,000 miles on it. Half on the Power Tours. The only problem he had was the electronic eye in the conversion kit took a crap. A points distributor from the trunk fixed us up in nothing flat. He also has a Ford Fairline project that's just been completed. I haven't seen that one yet.

This is Chris and Cara Woods' '69 Road Runner. He brought a '87 Grand National in '02 but long hauled with the Road Runner at least twice that I knew of. The only problem he had was a stripped bolt on alt bracket that let the belt fly off a couple times. He was able to get it fixed one night and problem free after that. I got real nervous about this point because I knew it was my turn for the next breakdown.

It didn't happen until 2002 but sure enough I was next. We got stuck in huge rain storm going from the stop at Speedway Motors to the hotel in Lincoln,NE. The next morning the car fires for a split second, backfires and after that only cranks. After retrieving the MSD instructions from the tool box we diagnosed it as a bum box. AAA and cell phones are a beautiful thing. I had the tow truck driver haul us back to Speedway Motors. Another lucky thing was that they were open on Saturdays. I bought a new MSD 6AL unit and put it in. Luckily we tried to get off to an early start and even with the 4-5 hour delay we still made it to Royal Stadium in Kansas City by 6:00.

For future reference, a 6AL can only hold a pint of water before it shorts out. I have my box mounted upside down under the battery. It's been like this for 5 years with no problems but with all the heavy rain from the night before and the slight uphill angle I was parked on just did it in. It didn't help that the original hotel overbooked and we had to go to another one across town. We put Ultra Copper silicone sealer on the new one before putting it in. Knocking on wood, it's been fine since.

This old timey looking gas station was rebuilt in front of Mid America Motorworks in Effingham, IL. We took these pics the following morning before heading home. I got to hand it to Mike Yager, owner of Mid America, for a top notch looking facility. Even after all that went on the night before, there wasn't as much as a gum wrapper on the perfectly manicured lawn the following morning.

I have a bunch of "objects are closer than they appear" rear view mirror shots. Unfortunely, they don't retake all that well.

This the Air Ride Technologies '70 Mustang Fastback. Seeing this stuff driving down the road is too cool. He pointed at my 7.5 Emblems and gave me a thumbs up on the way past. That made my day.

Here is another car you don't see going down the highway every day.
7point5inafox's 1985 Ford Mustang Beaver Falls, PA - 108
We thought this was a car that was pulled from a barn and driven on the Power Tour. After talking to the owner we found out it is a fiberglass body purposely built this way. The old flathead used something like 50 qts of oil on the entire trip.

This is the engine from the Highboy. He must have hung a bird feeder over the engine to get this much bird poop on there.

Bugs and rain would be a bummer but this has got to be a fun ride.

I can't possibly tell the story of this car on here but it has a great one. It seems when the owner came home one night, after a few adult beverages, the car rolled out the driveway, across the road, down over a hill and into a lake. The police were called to report it stolen. It was found days later, and pulled out with a tractor. It was cleaned up and driven since. There also is a bullet hole through the one side window.

Speedway Motors in Lincoln, NE is America's oldest speedshop. This is a tiny portion of what's in Speedway Motors' museum. I personally rate this as a must see for anyone intersted in antique and/or classic cars. "Speedy" Bill Smith is a great success story. We were there for a sneak peek before the grand opening so some stuff wasn't finished. I would really like to go back. He autographed photos for everyone there.

There are 47 of the 51 Tuckers built still known to exist and one is in the Speedway Motors Museum. The Tucker Club has interesting info on where most are if you would like to know.

This was memorial to the late Gray Baskerville that everyone could sign. It was set up at every stop on the tour.

This Nickey Chevrolet Nova was definitely a neat piece. When we were in Louisville he got pulled over by the cops for a smokey burnout in front of our motel. He was given a ticket on the spot to deter any more activity like that. The cop came and tore it up after he parked the car.

I can't remeber the guys name that owns it but it is one of the cars running in a fastest streetcar shootout. Runs 7's in the 1/4 if I remember correctly.
7point5inafox's 1985 Ford Mustang Beaver Falls, PA - 132
This was Boyd Coddington's famous car at the time. This was taken in '97. The whole car was widened a foot or something. Very nicely done.
7point5inafox's 1985 Ford Mustang Beaver Falls, PA - 115
Another Air Ride Technologies Mustang. I love the paint scheme. If I wasn't stuck on mine being a factory looking Mach 1 clone I would probably paint mine similar to this.
7point5inafox's 1985 Ford Mustang Beaver Falls, PA - 116
This Don Hardy's '56, I think, Olds. Awesome orange and off-white paint.
7point5inafox's 1985 Ford Mustang Beaver Falls, PA - 117
He had a Corvette tpi unit adapted to the original engine. Since the cubic inches were close the computer didn't know if it was spraying fuel into a new Chevy or an antique Olds motor.
7point5inafox's 1985 Ford Mustang Beaver Falls, PA - 118
This is another former magazine car. They were everywhere. I like orange. I Figured I would mention it in case no one noticed.
7point5inafox's 1985 Ford Mustang Beaver Falls, PA - 119
This is the Camaro's engine compartment. Super Clean!
7point5inafox's 1985 Ford Mustang Beaver Falls, PA - 120
I have a soft spot for 60's vehicles with 17" Torq Thrust style wheels. I took pics of a bunch of them.
7point5inafox's 1985 Ford Mustang Beaver Falls, PA - 121
We saw this mean looking truck at Route 66 Dragway in Joliet,IL.
7point5inafox's 1985 Ford Mustang Beaver Falls, PA - 122
I was told this was Troy Trepanier's first magazine featured car. I took this pic in '97. He's had many cars on the tour since.
7point5inafox's 1985 Ford Mustang Beaver Falls, PA - 134
This is Jack Trepanier's Biscayne, nicknamed Bisquik. If my memory is correct, it has a 604 ci BB Chevy. We ran into him at a car wash in St. Louis and he wasn't the friendliest guy we ever met but he has beautiful car.
7point5inafox's 1985 Ford Mustang Beaver Falls, PA - 136
One of my favorites that is around almost every year is the Baer Brakes' 1969 Mach 1. This is one awesome looking car. It's rumored to stop on a dime also.
7point5inafox's 1985 Ford Mustang Beaver Falls, PA - 123
Here a couple of cars belonging to the guys at Vintage Air.
7point5inafox's 1985 Ford Mustang Beaver Falls, PA - 131
This Nick Scavo's Impala taken in '97. With a Fast Times Motorworks engine it was the fastest street car at the time. I have some awesome video footage cruising side by side with him on I-94 heading toward Mt Clemens,MI.
7point5inafox's 1985 Ford Mustang Beaver Falls, PA - 135

Mark Stielow's ride in '97. It was at the next door hotel, as were a lot of the famous cars we saw. I believe it was one of HRM's top ten cars in '96. It had an all aluminum small block in it.
