1973 BMW 2002

One of the last round rearlight models produced!!
I bought this 02 back in 1992 - it was actually my first car.

The 02 needed some serious tlc, but it had never been restored before, came with complete history (I am only the 4th owner) and it still had its original early danish black numberplates (now very rare in Denmark)...

The first 2 years were spent on a complete restoration. I wanted everything to be as it was in 1973 when the 02 left the BMW factory in Munich.

In 1994 the 02 was complete including a respray in the original Verona red and a perfect black interior with BMW cord-cloth on the seat centers.

Sticking with originality the 02 is almost completely stock.

However I have fitted Bilstein shocks and the slightly harder rubber bushings from the 2002 Turbo.

There's also a KN replacement airfilter hidding in the original filterbox and a 2 inch ANSA sports manifold and exhaust.

Other than that it's just like BMW built it. It's even got several period BMW extras...

The steel wheels are 2002tii items making them 5 x 13" rather than the standard 4½ x 13". It's also got BMW green-tinted windows (on the pics I had only fitted the green-tinted windshield - now they're all fitted).

I just love the classic look of those round rear lights - fab rear end...

It's also got the rare BMW Motorsport steering wheel, BMW Motorsport gear knob and a BMW rev counter.

MY FAVORITE PLACE TO BE!!

Check out the original Blaupunkt FM/AM radio with the center speaker. It's a very rare and proper 02 radio, as you can see from the 2 dials which are identicle to the 4 knobs on the dash...

Even with the stock 2,0 liter M10 engine with a single Solex carb and 100bhp it's actually fairly fast due to the 02's low weight. Keeping up with modern traffic is never a problem.

Either way, the responsive suspension and direct steering make it a proper enthusiasts car - even without any modifications. Imagine how far ahead of the competition it must have been in the 60's and 70's...

Since buying this 2002 several other 02's have come and gone - saloons, tourings, tii's etc...
But this one is special and it's here to stay!!
