after i had already broken a wheeljoint on the stock dana28 i considered getting a new outter and joint and fixing it...but then i decided no. i want a solid axle. knowing that i wouldnt be doing a v8 swap i decided to go with a DAna30HP with 297x outters and 4.10 gears. i bought it from the pull yard for $86. here are some pictures of the build.
Here is my trac bar. i used one from a 77 F150 and just shortened it, about 6" ]
and here is my "custom" crossmember and gusseting. i used square tube and welded it on with 7018rod and a LIncoln 250 C/T. it not only mounts my radius arms on and serves as a crossmember but it provides protection to my transfer case. I appologize for all the slag in the pictures..i took it right after it was welded..
I also replaced the wheeljoints with some brute force replacment joints, new balljoints, and got rid of the stock XJ "inverted y" with YJ tie rods and spicer TRE's. I will also submit a picture of my custom "bic pen" coil system and steering stab. with rancho mounting.
