Here is my 1974 Datsun, pictures taken early this summer (2004). The old L26 (2.6 liter) was swapped out for a later L28 (2.8 liter, obviously). The L28 was mostly stock at this point, built .020 over with higher compression pistons (ran about 8.5:1 at this point). It also had a full 2.75" exhaust running from a 3-2-1 header with 1.75" primaries for better top-end power (who drives below 3000 RPM anyways?). The engine reached its break-in period of 1000 miles, I changed the oil, and went for some high-speed driving. Then, somehow the camshaft sprocket pin vibrated out of the camshaft, causing the sprocket to spin on the cam without actually spinning the cam. This made my valves and pistons really angry. So at this point I was going to rebuild the top end (the pistons were ok, fortunately) and just leave it as it was before. But of course, horsepower beats logic, and $1000 later I've got an engine pumping out about 220 horses at the flywheel. Modifications include (but most definitely are not limited to):
Turbo head off of 280ZX, shaved .080" (bumps compression to about 10.5:1), mildly ported and polished
Exhaust/header
240Z carburetors with custom made fuel-needles
270/280 camshaft
2 degree adjustable cam gear
electronic ignition
450 volt MSD coil
5 speed transmission swap
3.90 rear end
Yellow spark plug wires (they look fast)
L28 engine
Battery in rear
Slightly-domed pistons
Turbo oil pump
Lightweight flywheel
New wheels and tires, except the wheels are the wrong offset and I'm waiting for spacers to be made....

Holy crap there's no engine in this car!!

This is my 1983 280ZX. Bone stock. I bought it from a guy down the road for a grand total of $1100. His son fried the clutch and the transmission. Being a guy who doesn't throw much away, I fortunately had a spare 4 speed transmission, and with another $100 I had a new clutch to put in. 6 hours and a broken finger later, I have a $3500 car for sale. If you want it, email me. 2 Datsuns is one more than I need.
