This is how to change he lights in your Elements climate controls to what ever your little heart desires.

Tools needed...Phillips Screwdriver... needlenose pliers... soldering iron and solder... a cutting tool...and some good old fashion elbow grease.

Parts required...3 each 3mm LED's, 3 each 5mm LED. The 5mm are the top ones and the 3mm are on the bottom. The 5 mm led's need to be the same as the ones from the 2nd page, and you need to do the same thing to them. I got the 3mm LED's from Ebay. They make red ones that are alreay 12 v ready and dont require any resistance so they are easy.

First step is to turn on your ignition, put on your E-Brake, and put your shifter into neutral. The turn off the car and dissconnect your negative cable on your battery. Manual transmission cars do not need the ignition turned on.

OK grab the center dash panel on the passenger lower side and pull like hell. Beleive me you wont break it! Your fingers will hurt , but its worth it.

Keep pulling! See why we are in neutral now?

remove the 4 silver screws

Use the pliers or a flat tip screwdriver to pry the top part of the plastic cover off. Make sure you push in those clips. Dont break anything!

Pull it away

Now slide the circuit board outwards and you'll see the light bulbs in there sockets!

hondaguru04's 2004 Honda Element

OK heres what they look like when you pull them out and remove the light bulb

And here is the 5mm LED from the 2nd page

hondaguru04's 2004 Honda Element

Now, take the post from the old light bulb and measure 1/2 inch from the top of it. Note the mark

Now cut with your cutting tool of choice (mine was a dremal)

Should look like this when done.

Aight, now your almost done. Next just slide the 5mm led assy into the cut post. Looks good.

Now you will probebly notice that the power lead sticking out of the LED isnt quite long enough to get the job done. So what I did was cut off the lead from the stock light bulbs. Then solder the leads from the old bulb to the leads to the LED's leads and wrap the leads around the bottom of the post like they were when you took them out. I couldnt get any good pics os this because the leads are so small. SORRY

OK, now the easy part, the 3mm LED's.

Heres what they look like when you pull them out.

The 12 v ready 3mm leds I bought on ebay.

Its easy all you gottd do is pull out the old bulb and put the new LED into polace and do the same thing to the leads as you had to for the 5mm leds. That's is soooo simple.

All you gotta do now is put everything back together in reverse order.

Should look like this

Have fun and good luck! If you break something its not my fault!!!!

In order to remove led's you don't have to access the circuit board, if you look on the back of the plastic cover you'll see the back of the led sockets. If you have a narrow screwdriver you can actually remove the led's without opening the plastic cover.

Why did you have to cut the posts when you had to make the leads longer anyways (5mm) ?? They must have had the new guys at Honda design this set-up.

All I can say is WOW. That mod looks great. I've painted the whole exterior of my E FBP so I figure I should bite your style and do the same on the interior. Great work. Check out my E if you get a chance.
