Well, the long awaited electical system. I was gonna leave it alone, but the stock alternator didn't make it. Max output on a stock alt is about 130amps. Mine never made it over 85amps. Then it just quit. I put in an order for a PA performance 160amp alternator, and that recommends a wiring upgrade. I was going for the 200amp unit, but I don't see myself using that kind of power. I wasn't having trouble with only 85, now I am told I will have over 90amps at idle where I only had about 65 before.

The First step is to upgrade the wiring from the alternator back. In the first pic you see the old factory wire on the left. On the right, you have the new power and ground CABLES. I covered them with a nice mesh to hide them and protect them. I also bought the most powerful gel battery I could find. It is a 1100 amp Optima, mostly for comercial use, and high powered stereos, but it fit in my battery box - barely.........

Next, I put in some circuit breakers to keep the car safe. One in the dirver side fender under the splash gaurd(not that the car will get wet), and another at the battery box in the trunk along with a fuse distribution block for future upgrades. If there are any issues along the line, these items should prevent a car fire.

I also had a 100 Farad capacitor left over from a huge stereo system I had in another car at one point. I figured this was a good place to use it. It will site oposite the battery on a nice tray. Just a little extra assurance that I have some reserve power. I am hoping it will soften the blow to the electrical system when the fan turns on. Plus it looks really cool.

I will post up finished pics soon. It is still a work in progress. The battery and capacitor will not be seen in the end. I will have a nice panel made to hide them from the trunk view, and the rear seat delete hides them well from the car view. ENJOY. MORE PICS COMING SOON................

Awesome car. Last year of the 5.0? Very cool. That's the longer list of mods I've seen, dude. I didn't realize the production numbers were so low that year. 5 Stars!
Check out my 07' sometime.
