Here's a pic of the intake side of the small block #6 heads that I ported. The ports were raised and are now .100" taller than a stock Big Block Olds intake port. Many hours were spent widdening the ports without bitting through into the pushrod bores. The intake surface of the heads in this picture was milled .020" after this picture was taken so the intake would sit down enough to line up with the ports. So that surface is totally flat now and that line you see above the ports is now gone. Helped clean up the pitting around the water passages at both ends as well.

Here's a pic of the engine after I installed the ported heads on the 60,000 mile plus shortblock that I rebuilt 20 years ago. This Holley Street Dominator intake has alot of history behind it and it's been on a 403 that powered a 1900 pound Altred to some 8 second 1/4 mile ET's and it's been on a 428ci small block gas block olds with Nitrous that ran in the high 9's in 3400 pound Pro/Street type Cutlass. Of course it did not shine like it does now because I spent alot of time sanding it by hand with soap and water and wet/dry sand paper to polish it up nice and pretty. The intake was made by a guy here in Orlando about 30 years ago. He told me he tig welded 10 pounds of aluminum on top of all the runners so the ports could be opened up to match the BBO heads he was running. The plenum has been opened up to acommodate a Holley 4500 Dominator carb and runner extensions have been been added. Another guy that owned it had some flow work done to it by PFD to equalize the flow from port to port. I use a 2" tall 4500 to 4150 adapter upside down so I can use an Edelbrock Performer 750 carb I had lying around. It has since been replaced by a Barry Grant 750 Mighty Demon.

I thought the ported heads along with this tricked out intake and BG carb was going to make the car quicker and faster but that wasn't the case. It slowed from a 12.96 @ 103 best to a 13.37 @ 103.50 on it's first outting to the track but I can't blame the engine because I was spinning like crazy off the line due to a bad shock and no frame connectors which were removed and sold recently. I have since replaced the bad shock and have run a best 13.01 @ 104.3 mph. When I get it to hook I'm sure it will be running 12's again.

The new heads flow better than the old heads but the olds heads gave me more compression because they were milled .032" more than the big port heads. I went a little overboard polishing the cumbustion chambers and increased the cc in the cumbustion chambers to 72cc after the heads were milled .013". It doesn't ping anymore on pumpgas with more than a half a point less compression, so that's a plus and I think with some tuning I'll get it running in the 12's again.

UPDATE: 1/25/08

Didn't do anything to the car since it ran 13.01 last month but maybe add a few more gallons of gas and it ran 12.97 @ 103 something. Still got to get some frame connectors welded in and some Cal-trac's and I believe there could be some 12.80's to come. Hummmmm, if I could just get it to run mid 12's on the motor and then put some NOS back on it, can you say 10.90's ??

UPDATE: 2/24/08

I bought an electric Moroso water pump drive to see if this would help for my quest to run 12.50s. I got it so I can take it off when I'm not racing. I talked the wife into coming with me so she could video tape me making some runs, oh boy she was thrilled, (roll eyes). First run was a 13.01 @ 102 something, I was disappointed. I thought for sure the electric water pump drive was going to knock off some ET and add a couple of MPH. Next run I didn't spin too bad off the line and ran 12.88 @ 103.70 mph. Felt a little better about dropping the $100 on the electric drive now. I've run over 104 mph with a slower ET of 13.01 before the electric drive was installed so any horsepower gains have yet to be realized.

Here's a few picture of the BOP ENGINEERING ALTERNATOR BRACKET I installed on the drivers side of my engine. Sure makes removing the valvecover alot easier as I don't have to remove the top factory bracket anymore as seen in the engine picture on page one. It's sits lower than than it did in the stock location, pretty much where a power steering pump would be located. If you have power steering, you can use the BOP Bracket on the passengers side of the engine, you'll just have to run your wires over to that side of the engine.
