Center console project

Got my trusty 1st generation Dremel to clean up some bad cutouts from the previous owner. This will be covered by the top plate, but I just wanted to make it look a lil better
Taped it off. I'll just shave the plastic right up to the edge of the painters masking tape
After . A little bit better than before
Parts, Paints and chemicals together
Time for a good scrubbing. Joy or something that will take grease out. I used a brillow pad to lightly scrub the dirt and oils away
Dried it off using a clean Micro Fiber Towel. You can see where I tried my hand at some pistriping. Came out decent. I used masking tape, but you HAVE to use this special pinstriping tape. The edge of the pinstrip tape is very clean and sharp. Masking tape make the painted line a little wavy
After the wash, I let the armrest sit out in the sun for 20 minutes to warm it up. The piant will adhere to the surface alot better when the surface is warm.
Next was a light spray of the Auto Prep cleaner. I wiped it down with my Micro Fiber towel to make sure the surface was clean of any debris from sitting out. Next came the SEM Adhesion Promoter. A light coat first, wait 5 minutes(flash time) and then a wet coat. After the wet coat is sprayed, you wait 15-20 minutes and the surface is ready for paint.
My first coat of Krylon Fusion. Remember to stay 8" away from the part. Practice your paint stroke on something else first. When you thing you have it down, start painting. I sprayed in a horizontal(left/right) pattern starting from the top of the armrest. I worked my way downwards.
2nd light coat
3rd and final light coat. You have to be careful not to spray too many coats. The textured finish will fill in
Dried to the touch in 15 minutes. Its a good idea to let the parts sit for a few days for the plastic paint to fully bond to the plastic. About a weeks time and it should be good to go.
I started putting the parts on carefully so I could load some pics up
Cut the hole for my Badlanz wired cutout remote
I'm a little off on my measurement. Needs to go towards the right about 1/8". Oh well..What SS owner isnt a lil crooked..
I'm also prepping the hole for my Epicenter bass knob. I might fill this back in now that I have the power mirrors. I can put the bass knob in the passenger's mirror knob hole
OK. Decided I wanted to try a satin finish on the plastic parts. The shine was a little intense, and my finger prints showed up. I used some GOO GONE Xtreme to quickly take the paint off. Just spray on the painted surface and let it sit for a sec. Then scrape off with a putty knife. You can also saturate a towel and wipe the surface clean...
Sprayed it on, let sit and the paint bubbles up...
I started this piece. I wiped this piece down...
I'll post some finished pics up of th strip down. I also have sanded a few areas smooth for my own personal custom look. Stay tuned...
Instrument cluster project

Ebay is your friend...Got a complete lot of interior parts off of ebay for cheap. I'll get into the other parts later. This lil section is for the instrument cluster bezel. I wanted to do something a lil different and make it stand out while keeping some of the factory lines...Hope you guys feel this the way I do...
I used 80 grit sandaper to knock the textured area down. The greenish material you see is plastic filler. I had a few gouges in the bezel that needed to be filled in.
Done with the 80 grit. It knocked all the factory texture down. I used very light sanding strokes.
Then I realized I better tape off the section I dont want to be smooth AND and some of the section thats already smooth. That way I wont have to fix any gouges later..Used 200 grit sand paper, then 400 grit, then 500 grit, then 600 and finally 800 grit for a smooth finish
Made a lil ghetto sanding block. This will aid in making sure the surface sands flat and even.
After smoothing the center bottom section, I went a lil further with the customizing. I decided I wanted the center section of the pinstriping groove filled in. Started taping it off...
Had to add a lil plastic filler. I used tape to hold the taped. I also taped the top of the bezel and used a razor to trim around the circle. I dint want any extra filler on the sanded area
Mixed the palstic filler. This is a 2 part mix. There's a lil tub that turns the paste blue. The more you mix from the tube, the darker the paste gets. The darker the paste is the faster it dries.
Let the sanding begin....
Finished. Now the bezel cover has a "T" pattern of smoothed area. The pinstriping will fill the top of the bezel and the botton striping with start in the groove, then tace the edge and around the steering column.
BEFORE
AFTER
Mocked it up. All I need to do now is mold in my Audio Control Bass knob in the old passenger mirror spot, paint and pin stripe it.
POWER MIRROR PROJECT
My big homey TTop Tony hooked me up with some power mirror motors from a 1990 Camaro, and a control switch from a 1992 Caprice. I drew up a diagram with some help from a thread I was reading from on montecarloss.com.
Took the diagram in to work for my techs to look it over. They said everything looked good. We spliced all the wires together like my diagram and had power. THANKS T!!!
I used this to label all the wires
Wiring diagram I drew up for the Caprice switch
Im going to do a full write up on how to do this with vids and up close, clear pics for those that want to do this mod.
Part 2: Got the homey Tony's mirror housings and hooked it all up. This vid shows the motors and mirrors installed and moving
RADIO/HVAC CONTROL SWAP
Picked up this kit below to flip the radio and hvac controls around. Makes the area look alot cleaner and easier to access when the screen is opened.

The only thing I didnt like about the kit is that it does away with the factory black faceplate. I had one laying around and decided to do some custom work. I trimmed the old plate out with my Dremel, leaving a 1/4" lip around the inside.
Made a template out of paper, and then a stronger template from cardboard..
Mounted it to the kits cage and vioala!! it works. ..
The kits metal faceplate will need to be trimmed
Took the template and metal trim plate to work and trimmed it down...
Did some test fitting today. Worked out SSweet!
Old dash I got from ebay...
I had to cut the cig lighter holder plastic out so I could fit the new cage in...
Once that was done, I dropped the new cage in the opening. Fit like a glove. All the mounting screw holes lined up..The kit came with 4 srews. They were a tad bit too short so i grabbed some longer ones. Now that the cage is secure, I picked the dash up useing the cage. Its really secure and strong.
next came the dremeled out plastic bezel...
Then came the trimmed down plate cover..
Lined the holes up and used the allen head screws..There are 4 screws that secure the plate
I over sanded the bezel, and used some JB weld to fill it in. Heres some pics of it after the JB weld has dried..
Test fit it...
I dropped the dash pad cover on to see how well the bezel would sit. had to tape the cover off and do some trimming and light sanding
Decided to strengthen up the cage area a lil bit. Picked up some plastic epoxy from a local auto parts store. Its a 2 parts system that you mix up... Waiting for it to dry and then a lil sanding, shaping and paint. it doesnt need to be pretty. Just wanted to redo the mounting points.
Cracked dash repair project...
Picked up a dash from ebay and DHL shipping smashed the hell out of the box. Got all my loot back and icked up a dash cover from MIKESMONTES.COM. Started working on it...
3M tape in .5" and 3/4"
After scrubbing underneath the dash cap with hot water and soap, I let it air dry and cleaned with alcohol. Then I applied the .5" 3m tape around the edges of the dash cap.
Then I added the 3/4" 3m tape. I used all 36 yards to completely cover the caps backside.
I test fit the cap to see how it fit with all extra tape on there. The only problem area was around the edge where the gauge panel holder sits. I taped the dash cap off and dremeled the area and test fit again..
I also decided to trim the panel. I taped the panel off and made some 1" horizontal cutouts..
Took the tape off and test fit. Came out clean...
Mocked it all up to see how well the dash cap laid down. Its not stuck on yet. Just testing the fit and finish of the modifications to it I did...
Vid of me workin on it at the shop
I wil have it sand blasted, engraved and chromed. The black trim plate will be sanded and painted a nice shiny black, and the center smooth area will be a black pearl or carbon fiber covered.... The metal faceplate basically sandwiches the black plastic bezel in place. The das will be covered in carbon fiber vinyl. Pic below...
