Primary Chassis Assembly
This is where all the parts started coming together for the first time and of course a lot of individual parts were fabricated. I can not cover everything here, but I have a few highlights-
Compared to the original car, the motor is set back about 14". This was done to improve handling and to clear up more room for the front suspension / steering system. Even after using an air cleaner with different offset and dimensions, the hole for the cowl induction had to be relocated.
Of course moving the motor that far means a new firewall has to be fabricated.
Of course with the new firewall comes a lot of other changes compared to the original car. For instance, the brake and clutch pedals had to be constructed from scratch.
The battery is located in the rear of the car. A mounting box was fabricated and installed on the rear clip.
The interior sheet metal is all aluminum and was all fabricated to fit. Here is a look at what is under that sheetmetal...
And for anyone who has ever restored a car, here is a good indication of how long this vehicle sat outside under a pine tree...
Next- Adding the car body
