Here we are. A few friends and I at ATCO Raceway NJ a few years back. Before I went overseas to Kuwait/Iraq. There is my Elky, My brothers Black Elky, JP's 65 GTO convertable, and Dave's yelllow 38 GMC.
The 38 GMC ran pretty good, turning a 14.4 run. The GTO was 2 tenths faster, with a 14.2. JP did some carb tuning and later ran a low 13 at Englishtown.
The 1938 GMC has a 350 SBC with a turbo 400 trans. Running a wild cam, 3800 stall converter. Tunnel ram with 2 650 Holley's. A 12 bolt rear with 4.11's. Since that trip Dave and I had some time to mess with his combo, so this summer if we have any luck we'll be back to the track. The 1965 GTO has since been sold. JP bought a 63 Nova. It's a bright yellow, with a Vortec 350, Vortec blow through centrifical supercharger. It has a 700R4 trans, 12 bolt rear. He has been to atco last year with it and ran a 11.70. He also does ALL his own work!
My brothers black 1978 Elky HAD a high mileage (200K ) original 350. Factory Saginaw 4-speed. Factory 7.5 inch rear, with 2.41 gears. It had Torque Tech 3 inch exhuast, flowmaster delta flow race mufflers. Wiend 177 supercharger, holley 770cfm carb, all MSD ignition. His run was doomed before we got to the track. On the way down it started missing real bad. He ran it anyway, and dumped another cylinder before the traps. He still turnt a 15.00. hehe Not bad for a blown 200k mile, 2 dead cylinder, 350 chevy with highway gears. He has a different car now, 78 malibu, blown 406 chevy with a 250 shot of N2O. We'll see what that does this summer (2005). Now my car. I had no luck. My mechanical advance was stuck, and my fuel pump was giving 3 lbs. of pressure at idle. So I ran it. What a dissapointment. So I left it run, set the floats REAL high, and advance the timing to 28 degree's BTDC. I got to the tree, when it turned green I punched it. Then grenaded the rear all over the track. Clean through the rear diff cover came the spider gears, clutches and springs. So much for the Eaton Posi unit. The gears stayed intact though. RICHMOND GEARS ROCK!
Above are the parts that I was able to find. Below, here she is going home. Good thing my buddies have good friends. I managed to get a ride home for the Elky.
I've done alot of upgrade since that trip. New valve trane, new fuel system, MSD ignition system. Just have to finish the rear. I'll try again this summer (2005. As soon as I get some results, I'll post here.
