This page is dedicated to the restoration of my 1970 Camaro.
Just an interesting fact, this is 1970 Camaro # 30, with the first 17 being "pilot cars" made earlier than production for testing and advertising purposes, meaning this was the 13th Camaro to roll off the assembly line on the first day of production in 1970.
Here it is as I bought it in July 2004.
It had quite a bit of rust down low on the quarters and fender tips, as these cars usually do.
First thing I did was cut all of the rusty sheetmetal off, killed any and all rust using Ospho, then sprayed the inner panels with 3M rubberized undercoating.
Most of the substantial bodywork was done with All-Metal filler with a skim coat of Evercoat Rage Gold over the top.
Here the hood is halfway through stripping, showing the original citrus green paint, then completely stripped.
The entire car was disassembled & taken down to bare metal.
Literally hundreds of hours of blocking have gone into this car to ensure a mirror like finish when it's all said and done.
Also I have completely rewired the car with a new Painless harness. The rear leaf-springs have been replaced with new 5-leafs, all the leaf spring bushings as well as body bushings have been replaced with Energy Suspension Poly bushings. I have a complete front end rebuild kit that I've yet to install.
The entire undercarriage and floorpans, inside and out, & rearend housing were stripped to metal with a wire wheel on my 4" grinder and coated with POR-15.
After painting with POR-15, the floorpans and inner-roof were covered with 2x layers of peel 'n seal and reflectix heat and sound insulation. The interior is all new with new carpet, seats, and headliner, all in black.
There's a new set of Shoenfeld step headers, 1 3/4" - 1 7/8" primaries into 3 1/2" collectors, then a brand new Pypes Header back mandrel bent exhaust system with X-pipe and Violator mufflers.
Basically it's a new car again.
