Welcome the my Plymouth Scamp site. I am trying to upgrade my site to a "how-to" site to help out all my A-body friends out there. Having done many mods to my car I have learned what to do and sadly, what NOT to do. I dont like to think that I know everything but maybe some one else would benefit from what I have learned. If anyone has any questions, ask me on my guestbook and I will try to the best of my knowledge be able to give you an answer, and if I can't I will try to find it. I work with a lot of old experienced mechanics who really know their stuff. They laugh at me because I like 70's muscle cars and to me, a 70's muscle car is an old classic car. But to them that's not a classic. A classic car to them would be a 32 Ford coupe, or a Studabaker. That's like a triple classic to me. But anyways. Any questions? Let me know.
April 2004- This here is my 1973 Plymouth Scamp. I bought like this for $1900. Seems like a lot to some average joe off the street. But its priceless to me. Unseen fixes I have done so far are rebuild the steering gear box and pump which was leaking bad. Replaced front calipers due to a bad pull during braking along with the master cylinder, rear wheel cylnders, and all 4 wheels brake pads and shoes. My a/c needed work so i replaced the compressor, dryer, heater core and retro fitting the system for r-134a. This car has given me the nickname Joedirt because of the old plymouth road runner he drives in his movie, which lookes nothing like my car, by the way.
May 2005- Finally after being at the paint shop for 1 month, it looks good and I am turning heads now. I went to my friend's paint shop and helped with the sanding and masking off the hard to get to places. $1500 bucks later I have a new shade of ford's Torch Red on the Plymouth Scamp. After I polished it with Meguiars 3 step polish and wax, this red machine is show ready.
April 2004- After fixing up the main concerns for turning this ride into a daily driver, I wanted it to look nice too. The previous owner did some horrible bondo work. The body lines where the bondo is, is way crooked. I figured i would let some body shop do that.
May 2005- I still can't believe how great it turned out. It went from looking like a grandma car, to muscle car with just paint.
At the paint shop.....
I decided to ditch the half moon rims. Even though they looked vintage, I wanted a muscle look, so I bought some Crager SS rims and wide Firestone tires for $300 from a friend and bolted them on. After test driving the car I quickly found out that the tires were too big!!! I thought the tires would fit before I bought them, but the fenders disagreed with me. After I pursuaded the fenders with a hammer, I was ready to rock-and-roll.
April 2004- Hey it looks good from this end, except the fact that the color is brown. I mean REALLY BROWN. I don't know what Plymouth was thinking.
May 2005- Under the hood nothing has really changed exept for the red paint on the fenders. Soon to come here are an edelbrock performer camshaft .420" lift at valves, performer intake , and 600cfm carb. I have everything except the intake. As soon as I get it I'll be really cruisin.
This is my little rear end. I heard that my little 7.25 rear end won't hold under hardly any amount of power, and the 2.76 gears it has right now only allow me to have better gas mileage and not any actual power to the ground.I bought an 8.75 rear end off of ebay. The 8.75 rear end is a lot beefier and the 3.23 gears might be a little more of what I want.
April 2004- The interior, needless to say had to be the ugliest color I have seen. I knew I needed something new but I know interior work can be almost $1500 if done by a pro. I wanted it to look good so I started planning.
May 2005- While the car was in the paint shop. I removed the dash and had it painted red also. I cut and upolstered the dash pad with some new vinyl and put some new headliner on the ceiling. I spray painted my seats to see how I wanted to upolster them. Black with a red center look good, but I was also thinking of buying some racing seats from summit for $200 bucks a seat. I am not sure what to do yet.
It would not look this good without help from my savior Jesus Christ. I prayed on this car so much and it seemed like everything I needed done to it, just kinda fell into my lap if that makes sence. Jesus knows your deepest desires and wants you to be happy. But you can only be blessed if you have a personal relationship with him. Seek first the Lord, and he will take care of you.
