After many long years of hard work, my 78 is done. I've had this car since 1988 and after many years sold it to my Uncle. I bought it back in 1999 and later started a complete restification. I refrain to use the word restored as that to me means completely stock factory condition. It is not completely stock so I will call it restified.

My main goal in the rebuild was to focus on the body. I wanted to eliminate any current rust as well as prevent any future rust from developing. I stripped the entire car to bare metal, removed any and all rust, which wasn't bad since it was a southern car. It had a hole below the battery tray, one bad frame rail and a hole in the left rear quarter. I was lucky to find two brand new rear quarters which I welded in. The floor boards were near perfect as was the rest of the car. I then line welded every seam on the car to give it rigidity and eliminate the possibility of crap getting in the seams. The bare metal was treated with PickleX, epoxy primed and finish painted with top shelf PPG bc/cc in a 2003 GM color called Amber Fire Pearlcoat. It's a cool paint that changes color in different light. Every square inch inside, out and underneath has been painted. The exterior finish has been blocked and buffed to a show car finish. You could serve dinner on the underside of this car.

In the process I eliminated the bumpers, formed a new rear pan and fabbed up a new front end. The headlight buckets and lower valance are molded. The front bumper/filler is custom. Having removed the rear bumper brackets, I was able to tuck the muffler up under the car and exit the pipe through the rear pan which looks really cool compared to a stock muffler hanging below the car.

I't been lowered an inch, has urethane bushings throughout, Toyota front calipers, steel braided brakelines and so much more. This car is very tight, powerful, handles very well and gets 30+ mpg! It has the original low mileage engine that was completely gone through and a 79 5-speed tranny. Starts and runs perfect.
