This is my 1995 Lotus Esprit S4s. Being a low-production, hand-built automobile, only 361 S4s’ were constructed during their two-year production run. Of these, a mere 161 were imported into the United States making this Lotus a rarity among Lotus’s which are rare even among themselves. The S4s is the final version of the 4-cylinder Esprit’s as the next model year saw the advent of the V-8 powered cars. The genesis for the S4s was the Lotus Sport 300 racecar. Lotus took the performance enhancements of the Sport 300 and folded it into their extraordinary road car to produce the ultimate 4-cylinder Lotus. More nimble and equally as fast as the V-8 model in most respects, many consider the S4s the epitome of the Esprit automobiles. The S4s was fitted with the most extreme of the Esprit rear spoilers, which easily identifies it among its brethren. Even among Lotus aficionados, the S4s is universally considered to be the most physically beautiful of the Esprit’s. I consider ownership of this magnificent machine both a pleasure and a privilege.
