Below are a few pictures of some of the parts I cleaned and painted for the engine. There are many more parts that I sandblasted and painted but I got tired of taking pictures and/or uploading them.
Valve Cover and Timing Gear Sandblasted. Water Pump Housing Sandblasted Fuel Rail Sandblasted. This was done with all openings taped up so that sand would not find its way into the rail. The actual blast media used was glass beads. Oil Pan Sandblasted and Patched. This came off a junkyard motor, so they punched a hole in the pan to drain the oil before putting it in the yard. This is supposedly easier for them than loosening the drain plug. I fabricated and welded on a small steel patch to seal the hole. The intake was painted using VHT Wrinkle Black paint. This is similar to what a standard Turbo II one piece intake would look like, except it is missing a charge air sensor hole. Valve cover also painted with VHT Wrinkle Black. This is similar to the stock Turbo II valve cover as well. To finish off the stock Turbo II look the fins and lettering on the valve cover are sanded to expose the bare aluminum of the valve cover. The same sanding is also repeated on the intake fins. The black wrinkle finish and the bare aluminum fins produce a nice contrast. Some people like to paint the fins/lettering different colors, which is not my style The intake had a rusty steel plug in the side to seal the plenum. Since a new one was not readily available, I machined my own aluminum plug. This piece was turned on a lathe and then the Chrysler Pentastar was milled out using a CNC mill. All machining and CNC programming was done by me. This picture shows the location of the installed plug. The machined aluminum finish of the plug flows well with the intake and valve cover finishes. Pictured is the painted fuel rail. The paint used was just aluminum colored duplicolor high temp engine paint. Originally I had thought the fuel rail was aluminum, but after sandblasting I discovered it was just aluminized steel when it started to rust. So I had to sandblast it again and paint it. Here is a picture of the cleaned and painted throttle body. It was completely disassembled and the aluminum parts sandblasted. Was painted with the same paint used on the fuel rail. I also replaced the star socket head bolts holding the TPS and AIS motor with metric allen head bolts. Star head/socket bolts strip too easily.
