o2 Sensor Simulator Installation

Why? When installing Y-pipe, or deleting main catalytic converter, the rear oxygen sensor will detect an abnormal condition and illuminate "service engine soon" light. Also a good P0420 TSB fix when out of warranty.

How does it work? It splices into wiring with O2 sensor and simulates the signal of a happy sensor.

Note: Write up is for a Fed Spec 2000 SE. Cali Spec can be spliced at front of engine. On fed spec, if you did that you'd be splicing into crankshft position sensor. Don't ask how I know this!

1. Remove negative battery cable.
2. Jack up car.
3. Locate rear O2 sensor, behind main catalytic converter. Notice that the wire runs through a rubber grommet through the floor into cabin of car. Use screwdriver, gently pry out grommet and plastic insert.
4. Still working underneath, gently pull wires down until connecter comes through. Disconnect it.

5. From inside car, locate hole. It is under the drivers seat on right front side. You can poke the carpet from underneath with a screwdriver, making a tent in carpet to help you find it. Use a utility knife to cut a slit in carpet, giving room to work.
6. From under seat, push simulator wires through to underneath car.
7. Working from under car, cut back sheathing on the dangling connector so you can see the wire colors. This is on the 'car' side of the O2 sensor coupling, not the sensor side. You should see 5 wires: red w/yellow stripe; black; white; red w/blue stripe and pink w/ black.
8. SPLICE into the red w/ yellow wire for POSITVE supply on simulator. SPLICE into black wire for GROUND on sensor; CUT white wire, and attach signal wire from simulator to CAR side of cut wire.

Solder and tape all connections.

9. Reconnect coupling, and press grommet and plastic insert back into hole.

10. Test it out!
