Here is my stock 1980 vw rabbit aptly named Colonel Mustard.
I purchased this in March 2004 with 37,000 miles and it and it now has 49,000.
No much has been done to it. Its tranny was shot when I purchased it and the vacuum lines had become brittle with age.
The only other think to notice is the upgraded rims. I had stock before with steel hubcaps that kept falling off. These are just stock rims off a later model jetta. I wanted to keep the stock look and these are a composite rim so they are quite a bit lighter than the previous ones.
Well, its been a while since I updated this page. I have recently painted the rims white because the dirt road I live on had chipped the previous job pretty bad. I also added the metal scratch guards underneith the front door handles.
If you happen to have a second pair you can sell me please email me!!
Lastly, you can see what I've been working on lately, the barn I made over the summer, the deck is almost complete, and the gazebo (spelled right?) just needs its roof.

Yup, that's my brother Gabriel in the back there!
Well, I left it for about a month and felt bad so I have done some more work on it.
First off, I purchased a car bra to protect it from any further rock chips. It doesn't look great but, I certainly doesn't look terrible.
I didn't feel like that was enough so I purchased a new engine as well. It should be installed in about a month and a half. It is getting a 1.8 8v from a '85 Rabbit GTI. The engine will give out 90HP. However I decided that that simply wasn't enough so while the engine was out I decided to do a few things to it. It is in the shop right now getting port and polished. Then it will get a camshaft from either a 1.6 or 1.7 8v. This means I will be getting 100+ HP!! ( I know, I know, this isn't really much for a car but, you've got to remember that this car only weights 1800 pounds.) The new golf-four door comes with about 115hp and it weighs 2995 pounds just for comparison. This rabbit ought to really move once I have this installed. I'll be sure to post some pictures as soon as I get it installed.

The engine is in!!!! It feels soooo much more powerful. The total list of engine mods now are:
--- 1.8 engine from '85 Scirrocco with 100,000 miles (the engine
is now officially older that the chassis).
--- Port and Polish thanks to Quinn at All European in Kent WA
--- camshaft from a 1.6 liter engine (less smog requirements
make this a little sportier cam.
--- removal of alot at unnessesary thing in the engine bay such
as vacuum booster, intake thermostat and hosing...a bunch
of other small stuff.
So now I have about 100 to 110 hp at the crank! Its quite the upgrade from my previous 76hp.
I'll be adding some pictures in a short while.

So I havn't updated this page in a while. Not much else done to the Rabbit. Went on a few drives. Replaces a wheel bearing and got it running extremely smoothly and reliably. On one of the drives I had Joel (Rootrider) taking pictures and they are by far the best I've had. Here they are! What do you think.
Well. Did a dyno run today. Didn't do all that bad. Made 84.01 hp and 95.1 torqueat the wheels. I don't know what that translates to the crank but if it is the standard 20% loss to the drivetrain then I'm making about 100hp at the crank. Just about what I thought.
Anyway, I'll be recieving and installing a ported intake manifold shortly so I'll install that and dyno it again. Then I'll install that turbo and dyno it again! Should be quite a blast.

nothing new...so a few pictures

Hi,
I just came across your page when I was checking out Derek's site (The Scientific Rabbit) and the article about your stage 1 intake from him.
I just realized I posted in your guestbook a few years ago, and wanted to follow-up on what I said back then...
Your car looks AMAZING! I wouldn't change anything on it if it were my car, the bumperettes, emblems, badges, oldschool interior, and especially the pinstriping are what make the car unique. Keep it up, it's looking very nice!
Mike.
