UPDATE-6/4/06
Well the car is sold. I moved and could not bring it with me. A lucky man in Maryland is getting it shipped out to him for restoration. He will treat it right. A car is just a hunk of metal. What makes it special is the memories one makes with it. Before I got the car from the Carr Family (no pun, the origional owner had a last name of Carr), the wife of this aged couple remarked about all the memories she and her husband had with the car and how she would miss it. In the short time I had this car I made many LONG trips in it. Drove it on the world famous Laguna Secca Raceway and I took it down the quarter mile at the Sacramento Speedway. The car never failed me and gave my wife and I miles of fun and many memories. So think on this when you look at whats in your garage. Remember its destined for the scrap heap: rust, time, life, accident will one day come and claim it. I am not one of those "car investment" people. So I say, we do what we do because of the fun we have doing it. So get out there this summer and enjoy your ride. Long after the car is gone you will still have all those memories you built with it, yes long after that motor you built bites the dust even :)
On a happier note. the 77 Matador Coupe was replaced by a local car buy at my new location: "Denty" the 69 Rebel SST coupe.
This my AMC Matador Coup. I got it for $750 off of a man i worked for as a kid. A real survivor i bought it with only 94K miles on it. Only performance mods i have done to it is the dual exhaust and removal of the cats as well as the disconnecting of the smog equipment and controls, also replaced the leaking 2bbl carb with an adapted 4bbl carb. The trany in this heavy old car shows its age and is really slippery and it needs to be replaced. No real mods are worth doing till i replace the cam as others have tested and noted that the late 70s amc cam is so anemic that your lucky to get any hp boost from any mod as its already at its peak.. so comming up are a 4bbl intake and a cam that isnt a POS. more pics later. For being a low HP late 70s V8 ( 304/5.0L) its fairly fast and fun to drive.
