This car was given to me by my grandparents this past summer (2004). They had purchased it in 1990 when it had roughly 32,000 miles on it. When I received it, there were about 97,000, now a little over 98,000. It runs O.K. But it does have occasional issues with the carb. such as smoking, stalling, and rough idling. A new exaust has just been installed, as the old one had rusted away. The basic specs are: 2.2L, 2 door, 4 cylinder, carbed, automatic, and I THINK it's 92hp (?). It is fun to drive but does not seem to like cold weather. I like it more because you don't see many on the road anymore. The stereo installed is a factory Chrysler (which are pretty desent stereos) AM/FM Stereo Cassette. I don't want a CD player since I still use tapes regularly. Overall, for the price paid ($0.00), it's an awesome car. macdude's 1987 Plymouth Turismo

UPDATE: I may have to sell it. It's having a strange problem where at random times, the tachometer will jump all over the place, and the engine tries to die. It has these fits every once in a while for a few seconds, and then will stop and return to normal. I'm afraid it will die at a bad time and cause an accident. The mechanic says it is the computer, and it's about a $600 repair. I didn't even think there was a computer (besides spark control). I disconnected the wiring harness that connects to the carb, and this fixed the problem completely for about a month, it even felt like the car had more pep. Now it's back, and it happens with the harness connect and disconnected. I'm hoping it's just a small issue that they've overlooked. Please help if you can. I haven't taken it to the dealership, and I don't think the distributor has been replaced in a while.

Had one just like it here in PA. I miss it and will have another one someday! I had the carb issue and with a rebuild at a reputable shop, it ran great hot or cold! Goos luck!

I had an 87 just like the one you are showing here. Great cars was the first real vehicle dad bought me after the "test my driving jalopy". Distributer, Cap, Rotor Button, timing and all that like the guys said before me. Another thing too the carbs on these things were finicky It is best to convert to fuel injection if you can. If you go to sell, as you metioned, please give me a shout I would love to get one and maintain it for my son so 13 years from now he can drive what I did my senior year back in 1996.

Thats in nice shape. I had the same problem and i still have a problem every time the oil needs to get changed. But i chenged the cap and rotar. And the spark plugs and wires. That helped a lot. the choke on the carb is bad and that may be a reason for the rough starts. I'm going through the same with my 84' Turismo. You might try rebuilding the carb. w/ a carb. rebuild kit if you have the time and knowledge. I'm prolly going to take mine into a shop to have it done. But also chek into the timing. My'n was all replaced at about 95,000 miles. Another thing that may help is carb/choke cleaner. It's something you spray down the carb to get the chum out. hope you get the info you need. The only good adv. i can give is dont sell the car. It's priceless...
