This car was given to me by my grandparents this past summer (2004). They had purchased it in 1990 when it had roughly 32,000 miles on it. When I received it, there were about 97,000, now a little over 98,000. It runs O.K. But it does have occasional issues with the carb. such as smoking, stalling, and rough idling. A new exaust has just been installed, as the old one had rusted away. The basic specs are: 2.2L, 2 door, 4 cylinder, carbed, automatic, and I THINK it's 92hp (?). It is fun to drive but does not seem to like cold weather. I like it more because you don't see many on the road anymore. The stereo installed is a factory Chrysler (which are pretty desent stereos) AM/FM Stereo Cassette. I don't want a CD player since I still use tapes regularly. Overall, for the price paid ($0.00), it's an awesome car.
UPDATE: I may have to sell it. It's having a strange problem where at random times, the tachometer will jump all over the place, and the engine tries to die. It has these fits every once in a while for a few seconds, and then will stop and return to normal. I'm afraid it will die at a bad time and cause an accident. The mechanic says it is the computer, and it's about a $600 repair. I didn't even think there was a computer (besides spark control). I disconnected the wiring harness that connects to the carb, and this fixed the problem completely for about a month, it even felt like the car had more pep. Now it's back, and it happens with the harness connect and disconnected. I'm hoping it's just a small issue that they've overlooked. Please help if you can. I haven't taken it to the dealership, and I don't think the distributor has been replaced in a while.
