Update 2008: A lot has changed since my last CarDomain entry. The biggest of which, was converting my 1991 Automatic with the VG30E engine, to a 1992 Manual with the VE30DE engine swap.
This is the only successful swap of it's kind for 3rd Gen Maxima on record - at least that I know of. I am extremely pleased with the results. Look for some updated photos of this and other mods below. I am updating this as I type, so if you don't see the updates - they are on the way...

Welcome to my 1991 Nissan Maxima SE page.
I've owned this car since 1996, and have put most of my efforts into keeping looking great and running smooth.
INTRO...
It's an amazing thing - a car that is.
When you first own it, it's your pride and joy. But as time moves along and new models appear on the scene with better specs and sexier curves, one starts considering the new breeds and what to buy next...
...but money is tight, the practicality of spending more money sets in, and besides... the car is still running like a champ.
So you start drawing up the plans and looking at your ride in a whole new light...
A tale of two titties (or how the Maxima got where it is today)...
A perfect sunny California afternoon.
I was cruising along a fast moving 45MPH (or 70KPH) surface street consisting of 3 lanes in each direction, when a car from oncoming traffic lost control of her vehicle, violently swerving across her 3 lanes and right into mine.
There was no time to move. She was inches from my hood when I realized what was happening.
I could see the whites of her eyes. She was frozen in fear.
I turned my head to the side, away from the glass, and I pressed my back hard into the seat. My elbows locked as I braced for what amouted to the force of a 90 MPH impact...
"Oh God."
That was the last thing I remember saying.
I'm not the most religious guy -- but I became one quickly.
"BOOM!" When I managed to unlock my jaw and pry my knuckles from the steering wheel, I just sat there in shock. Not breathing in, or out.
I couldn't believe I was alive.
I was in chiropractic rehab for 6 months with a misaligned neck and back, and some internal bruising, but I was in one piece.
Fate steps in...
Looking back on that day, I've often felt an inferior car might not have protected me as well.
My training in defensive driving technique aside, and perhaps having some kind of angel on my shoulder, I believe the quality build of my Maxima saved my life.
...and after what we just went through together there was no way I was going to let it die in a junkyard.
It was time to return the favor. And over the course of 9 weeks -- that's exactly what we did.
We brought it back to form.
So for me, my car isn't just a car. It's a reminder of where I've been. A reminder to be thankful for what I have.
The Max today
