In 1989 GM introdused the Lumina, on the W-body platform, to replace the Celebrity. The Lumina was designed as a midsize, front wheel drive sedan that could hold 6. This car was meant to directly challenge the European inspired Ford Taurus. The Lumina was the first four door on the W-body platform which included:
Buick Regal
Oldmobile Cutlass
Pontiac Grand Prix
The Lumina was later available as a two door, and came in two packages the base, or the Euro which recived a diferent grill, a trunk spoiler, sportier suspension, and A/C. In 1990 Chevrolet introdused the Lumina Z34, which had NASCAR inspired ground effects and GM's new DOHC 3.4 V6.(only availabe in two door)
Standard equipment on all models included 4-wheel disc brakes, power steering, and a fully-independent suspension all around.
Lumina Thunder - This two-door coupe started out as a Lumina Euro, but was clad with ground-effects and "Thunder" decals. It was a promotional car for the movie "Days of Thunder" starring Tom Cruise. It is unknown how many were produced. NOTE (If anyone has any pictures or information of one please e-mail them to me, thanks.)
