I bought my KLZE today! It's going on the stand as soon as I can find a 12mm bolt with a 1.25 pitch that is long enough (100mm+).

After 3 days of failure including Ace Hardware, Napa, and Sears...My "New Best Friend" found the bolts I need, in Grade 8, at an Ace Hardware near his house. Had I listened to my Girlfriend who recomended that Ace hardware, I would have found them myself.
I bought a new water pump, timing belt, axles, rear main seal, thermostat and gasket, oil filter and pcv valve today.

Well, the engine went on the stand tonight. We pulled all the old sensor plugs out of their ports. Pulled off all the hoses that we weren't re-using. Pulled the exhaust and intake manifolds off, then took off the valve covers to get a good look at the amount of wear and build up in the heads. Not a bit, this engine is so clean!!!!
(Note: The bolts for the engine stand cannot be too long. Not all of the the holes in the block pass all the way through. I used one 100mm bolt from Ace and one Stock 1.8 (K8) tranny bolt. Also, a great idea to buy a bunch of Fender washers to use as spacers and to get a flush, tight fit.

Today I ordered my ClutchMasters clutch, Hot Shot Headers, SS clutch and brake lines, PaceSetter Short Throw Shifter and Magnecor plug wires from Rafi @ RR-racing.com

I spent the better part of the night cleaning the engine and bagging and labeling bolts. I pulled the oil pan and the splash guard off to get a look at the bottom of the pistons and cylinder walls. Everything looks great. I cleaned off the shield, the oil pick-up, and the pan and re-installed. I also replaced the thermostat and gasket.

Removed the Crank pully, and pulled the timing cover off. Then tore down the timing belt and tensioners. Cleaned everything up and then replaced my water pump. Removed front crank seal but in the process of installing the new one messed it up. Back to the parts store.

All my goodies from rr-racing arrived today. Bought another crank seal and installed it. Motor is ready to be timed. I will be using the old tensioner/idler pullies because they looked like they were in good shape. I will, however be putting a new timing belt on.
2/3/05
Timing belt installed. Ready to put valve covers and itake back on.

The weather has been rainy and cold and miserable and I have been really busy so progress has been very slow. *cry*

Ordered and received polyurathane to fill my motor mounts from McMaster-Carr. All I need for my swap is a front motor mount. I really could do the swap this weekend but I had to put it off until April 8-10. "KLZE Green Turd" Coming to a highway near you April 10th 2005.

I bought a Red Top Optima Battery because it is a sealed cell battery. This afternoon me and a buddy moved the battery to the rear.

Started My ZE Swap. Pulled the 1.8 out in just a few hours.
4/8/05
Took the day off of work to get the flywheel re-surfaced, to find an o-ring for my distributor (NAPA), and to clean and touch up paint my engine bay. By the end of the night the ZE was in but there was still plenty of work to do.
4/9/05
We solved a few of our difficulties and it fired up first turn of the key. We rode around with open headers for a while to make sure everything seemed ok. ALL I CAN SAY IS WOW! There is a lot of difference between an old, leaky, vacum leaking 1.8 and a like new ZE.
04/12/05
When using these HotShot headers, you need to cut a little material off of the heat sheild on the radiator fan so that it doesn't rub.

Harold's Muffler in Lawrenceville installed my 2.5" exhaust system...with MagnaFlow Muffler, Cat, and Tip
