Well This is what started this stage in moding my rig. Out on one of my last wheeling trips I slid into a tree and tore my rear Bushwacker fender flare off. So I decided it was time to go ahead and trim the 3" out of my fenders that I had been contimplating for so long. I guess its a good thing this happened the fender flares were hiding quite a bit of rust! I started out by building a superhightech measuring tool, to mark a line to cut. Then I went a head and marked the line on the fender, busted out the sawzall and went to cutting. I also had a bad section of rust towards the front of the fender that I cut out and tried to patch up too. to patch this big whole up I used some sheetmedal I had left over from some half doors we built for my brothers rig. Once I had the outer fender cut out I cut into the iner fender. I maid several slits in it so I could pound it up to the now 3" higher outer fender. Once all this was complete I was ready to begin tacking the inner fender back to the outer fender. Welding on this thin sheetmetal is a real bummer! After every thing was all welded back together I cut the excess inner fender off and started grinding it down to look decent. Then I filled the gaps in the inner fender with strips of sheetmetal.
The hardest part I will say is definatly welding that thin sheat medal back together, other then that thought it really wasnt to bad of a project. I still plan on coating it with dupli-color bedliner. In total I gained about 3.25" of clearance and got rid of most of my rust to boot.
