Miata turbo manifold.

In anticipation of installing a Built 1.8L 99 miata engine in place of my stock 1.6L 93 engine I would need a new turbo manifold. I decided the best design would be an equal length runner manifold with a proper 4 into 1 merge collector. Also since I have removed the power steering and AC, havent had them for years, I felt a design to mount the turbo down low in the space once occupied by those components would be good and it provided for room for nice equal length runners.

The Manifold and turbo placement wont work with AC or power steering and the inlet piece for the water pump will be a modified version from a 323 GTX or Ford Escort GT. These move the Heater pipe closer to the block and slightly lower providing more room. The connection to the radiator will be made to point forward.

I designed this manifold to be made out of 1-1/4 schedule 40 weld ells and pipe. I think this should make a very durable manifold. Once again ProE was used to lay out the design. The turbo placement was determined by measuring ad guesstimating available clearances then the merge collector and the runners were designed to mate up with exactly equal lengths. The turbine inlet lines up with longitudinally with #2 so #1 and #3 are mirror images of each other and #2 and #4 are setup to be the same length and all bend radiuses are the same as the available weld ells.

Careful planning and going off my drawings made fit-up of all the pieces superb. I could use a little more practice with the TIG torch however. I used oxy-acetylene for most of the joints and I am very happy with there quality even if there not that beautiful.

Hey man, SWEET Miata. I saw the downpipe you made for Lances 323 GTX and was wondering what it cost to make that?? I have a 91 MX6 GT with the same turbo, and I could benefit from that same downpipe, or at least one VERY similar. Let me know! jgro1976@gmail.com. Thanks! Jason
