My DIY S800 style mirrors.

Got mirrors from Mooneyeusa.com they are GT001 (S800 style mirrors) just $19.95 each!! They have a cast aluminum polished base and spun I think polished thin stainless steel mirror head and a convex glass 4" in diameter.  They look really nice and appear to be good quality and are very light weight and more aerodynamic with less frontal area than stock.

There was no good way to mount them directly to the door you cant access the inside of the door to tighten them up even if you take the door mostly apart and if you did manage to do it you wouldn’t be able to see out of them because of the position.

My solution, Make adapter brackets.

The brackets I made fit on the door with the same footprint as the stock mirror and provides a nice pedestal that positions the mirror in the right spot to make them functional. A potato chip cover plate held on by a single countersunk screw hides all the fastener bits and keeps them sleek looking.

The fabrication process started with aluminum extruded angle and required welding filing grinding tapping and sanding to make functional and stylish brackets.

Visibility: probably a little better than stock due to the convex. Didn’t take me long to get use to and actually made backing up with my tire trailer easier.  (Objects in mirror are closer than they appear)

Function they are stable and don’t move even at speeds aproching 140MPH my stock ones wouldn’t stay put any more, these do.

Hey man, SWEET Miata. I saw the downpipe you made for Lances 323 GTX and was wondering what it cost to make that?? I have a 91 MX6 GT with the same turbo, and I could benefit from that same downpipe, or at least one VERY similar. Let me know! jgro1976@gmail.com. Thanks! Jason
