Installing Sparco Roadster seats Low without sliders.
First thing you will find if you study it closely is how wonky everything lines up from the factory. Stock seat back is offset inboard of the seat bottom, nether line up with the center of the steering wheel. The steering column is offset slightly from the center of the instrument cluster, and the column isnt quite parallel with the centerline plane of the chassis either. Then to top it off the transmission tunnel is not symmetric and the passenger seat is not just a mirror image of the drivers seat. Yet somehow when you sit in the car it feels right and you dont even notice the subtleties used to fit large humans comfortably in a small car.
After studying these things I decided the seat should be mounted as close to the tunnel as possible and what I was really after was getting low to fit my 6ft tall body with helmet well below a roll bar and the top without having to recline the seat so far that I couldnt reach the steering wheel. As an added benefit you get a lower CG and less weight. I used the stock seat mount locations to the chassis but keeping the sliding adjustment just added too much height. Luckily my wife doesnt have any issues driving with the seat in the same position as me. Both me and my wife feel these seats are more comfortable than the stock seats. The seat ends up with the butt hard pressed against the floor carpet about as low as it will go without pounding the floor pan down under the seat.
Seat modification required: (With the cover streached back over you wont even notice. I used an angle grinder to grind away the fiberglass. Wear a partical mask and eye protection.)
Front lower inboard corner needs to be trimmed back to allow it to fit close to the tunnel. Red lines show where to cut.
Outboard wing needs to be trimmed back for clearance to the B-pillar.
Seat brackets: materials. (welding used) 1/4 Thick X 1.5 aluminum flat bar. 3/4 square steel tubing, 1/8 thick X 1 steel flat bar washers for spacers to adjust recline and metric bolts that thread into existing threaded inserts molded into the seats. a material was ground out of the seat to be able to get a wrench on the aft mounting bolt. the slots help to make it easyer to install the aft mounting bolts. It's a bit more challanging to get at those bolts now. Willans harnesses, now installed on both sides. Hard dog door bars. crease in map pocket from door bar

Hey man, SWEET Miata. I saw the downpipe you made for Lances 323 GTX and was wondering what it cost to make that?? I have a 91 MX6 GT with the same turbo, and I could benefit from that same downpipe, or at least one VERY similar. Let me know! jgro1976@gmail.com. Thanks! Jason
