It doesn't look all that hot... Yet.

whynotasuper's 1974 Volkswagen Beetle

This is my 74 super beetle, some like to call "smalls." It's pretty much stock right now but I have high hopes for my little dub. I'm fifteen and this is my first car so I guess I'm sort of attached to it. We just took it in for an all new brake job and had the speedometer repaired. I'm kind of new to this but want to learn so any imput would be greatly appreciated. Let me know weather you think I should work on the outside or under the hood first.

hey man nice car. I got my fist one when i was 15 to, a 1975, im now 19 and i just bought a 74'. I know what u mean with the supers. I have two and and i dont get why people dont like them. I think its a generation thing. See we like them coz we wernt around to see the beetle evolve. Most old guys are attached to the original and dont like change. However we prefer the sporty look of the longer body and curved windscreen. Good Luck with the car mate, keep updating so i can see ya progress

Nice lookin Bug, its a great start for a 15 year old. If I was you I would fix the taillights and shine up the bumper first. Then I would see if anything needs to be done to the motor example a tune up. For mods maybe look into some rims and window tint. Just some ideas. Good luck with it. Check out my Eclipse when you get a chance.

Interesting. I agree with the first guy. Fix what's needed to be safe, then what can be "seen," then do any maintenance it needs on the motor. Only After that would I worry about Customizing, stereos, and crap like that. As for the "Super Beetle, well I've heard a few things like they are hard to make into "Baja Bugs," Lower, things like that. Besides How many can there be out there still in good shape? Best of luck to you. Later

supers have a bad rep because of their shaped rear fenders and the macpherson strut front end (kind of a bitch to mod, lower or higher :/ ) I'm from southern oregon as well, piecing together a 1969 beetle, learning the hard way as well. My best advice is to do what needs to be done to the running parts of the car (re-pack wheel bearings, check fluid levels [all three of them], tune up engine) you know, the works. You're gonna want to have a sound car before you dump money into it and find out the engine is hosed (like I did)
