I am constantly modifying,
upgrading,

and improving the looks &

 function of my RoadMonster.

I try to do a minimum of
two modifications per month,

even during the show season.
"Lets go look at the modifications!"

Car Show / Business Cards

road_monsters 1994 Buick Roadmaster

road_monsters 1994 Buick Roadmaster

Not really a mod.

However, I give these things out all the time.

This is the second revision of my third card.

I had these made because I get asked A LOT

of questions at car shows and cruise-ins.

I got tired of scribbling on scratch paper and napkins.

I have a card holder on my car show display sign,

and people can just take one.

I've got the info listed for:

-Email address

-Forum

-CarDomain ride page

Permanently installed armored

steering column lock.

Made by LOK-ITT.

The unit has a painted finish.  However...

road_monsters 1994 Buick Roadmaster

...I am having Sharp Customs powdercoat

the armored collar portion in GRAY.

I might have the second part,

the part that locks on the top,

and extends through the steering wheel

powdercoated in RED

(Not sure, might just have the whole thing coated in GRAY.)

The main part of this is four layers of steel.

This part is permanently installed.

This gives the vulnerable GM column a suit of armor.

The second part locks on the top of the

column part with an armor protected padlock.

When locked on, it extends throught the steering wheel.

I have other security measures in place on my car,

which I won't ever show or discuss.

However, as this is highly visible,

which is the point,

to be a visual theft deterrent

as well as a physical barrier,

I have no problem documenting this here.

Stay tuned...

Corvette Starter
My starter decided to act up
today during a Sunday Drive.
Ordered a brand new Corvette Starter,
which is a gear reduction starter.
It's smaller, lighter, and more
powerful than the B-Body starter.
This is a brand new Delco unit,
not remanufactured.

I meant to take pics of the install.
I should have taken pics of the
B-Body Starter compared
with this Corvette Starter.
I didn't.
However, the new one is about 2/3 the size
and half the weight of my B-Body Starter.
Plus it sounds pretty damn cool!

I bought it here:  LINK

I recommend this seller highly!

Emblem Modification
Here is what the emblems look like now:
We designed a decal:
I want them to match these emblems:
A little Krylon Fusion in silver...
Krylon looks good!!!
Decal is on!!!
Looks great and does match the
Gran Sport and Ram Air emblems...

Headlight Cover Update:
I refined the template a bit.
As you can see, the covers will be
held on with just one bolt.
It's the stock headlight frame
mounting bolt.  The lower bolt.
Also, the cover will tuck under the
fender to hold the top in place.
The cover will still be just one piece,
with just two 90 degree bends.

"Inner Headlight Covers"
Since no company makes
inner headlight covers
for the Roadmaster Sedans...

I thought I'd give it a shot.

These will clean up the
front of the engine bay.

Here is my first cardboard prototype:

I'll use thick sheet aluminum,
and have them powdercoated
in black wrinkle to match the
ram air intake and deflector.
Speaking of which,
there is no interference
with the ram air deflector!
I'll finish off the install with
some nice chrome hardware.

MORE Chrome Hardware
from boltdepot.com
Everything is chrome,
save for this button head bolt,
which is stainless.  So, I polished it.
I could not find a fully threaded
M10 x 60MM chrome bolt anywhere.
These little bolt covers are pretty cool.
I have a few misc. pieces of hardware
that are odd shapes and / or sizes.
These chrome plated brass caps finish
off odd hardware very nicely.
This is the negative battery ground.
Now you see the ugly bolt...
Now you don't!!!
I used two of these above the
PCM on the DS inner fender too.

These bolt covers are for the negative battery ground
& two inner fender bolts on the DS inner fender,
above the PCM / wheel well.
Made of chrome plated brass.
Chrome Acorn Nuts were used for practically
all the underhood accessories:
alternator, fuse box, coolant reservoir,
washer reservoir, etc.
Button head bolt was used for the upper alternator bolt.
It's hard to find an M10 x 60mm bolt in
chrome that is a full thread or tap bolt
(threaded the entire length of the bolt).
I ended up getting a high quality
stainless bolt and I will polish it.
I used MANY chrome washers of
all sizes in the engine bay.
I also used lots of chrome nuts & chrome nylon lock nuts.
I already had a lot of stainless allen head bolts.
I just added more and more in chrome.
For the headers, there are nice
chromed 12 point header bolts.
At this point, I'd say the engine bay &
engine is about 99% complete with chrome hardware.
I am sure that I'll find something
else that I can improve upon ;)

This cover will snap onto the

stock plastic bottom PCM holder.

 road_monster's 1994 Buick Roadmaster

It'll have the Buick Tri-Shield logo to

match my Optima Battery Box.

In fact, Greg made my Battery Box too!

We also installed a cool new bleeder

valve for the thermostat housing.

It's nickel plated, & has a provision for a hose.

We attached a red silicone hose,

& ran it down the front of the engine.

Now when we bleed the air

from the cooling system,

the coolant runs nicely out the hose,

and not all over the front of the engine,

and on the distributor.  Thanks Tim!

   road_monster's 1994 Buick Roadmaster

I installed new stainless

steel hose clamps too.

road_monster's 1994 Buick Roadmaster

These stainless clamps are sleeved,

designed for silicone hoses.

I am really happy with these hoses.

They are much better quality and fit

better than the Goodyear Hi-Miler hoses.

In fact,

the Goodyears were ruined by removing them.

The material bonded to metal,

to the clamps,& I was surprised at how

they came apart upon removal.

RAM AIR Emblems
I bought a set of emblems from Schram Auto on eBay.
  They looked like this.
Same orange metallic color.
I modified them by cutting off the "V6" portion, cleaning up that area, and sent them to Tim aka Brodude to have the letters painted red.

I send along a NOS Gran Sport emblem, so Tim could match the red color.

Nickel Plated Coolant Bleeder Valve

& Red Silicone Hose.

road_monster's 1994 Buick Roadmaster

This will look nice,

but more importantly ,

make bleeding the air out of the

coolant system a lot less messy.

road_monster's 1994 Buick Roadmaster

The silicone hose will route down

the front of the engine,

and when bleeding the coolant system,

the bled coolant will not go all

over the waterpump and distributor.

Note the ridiculously thick silicone hose...

Got the lights today.

What a difference having

the proper lighting makes!

Now, for comparison is a photo I took before these lights.

It is the best one out of many,

using shop lights and other lights

to try to illuminate the engine bay.

It's pretty dark.

road_monster's 1994 Buick Roadmaster

This time of year, the RoadMonster

is pretty much stuck in the garage.

Even though I have shop lights in my garage,

it's still too dark to take good photos,

and the flash is too much:

All I get is a bunch of glare

from all the shiney parts with the flash...

Now I will be able to take better

winter garage photos for this page...

Installed my new

Kewlauto Red Smoothie C4

Fuel Rail Covers & Oil Cap.

I have wanted a set of these for years.

My wife bought them for me for Christmas.

Beautiful craftsmanship.

Here is the passenger cover compared

with my "stock" cover.

road_monster's 1994 Buick Roadmaster

road_monster's 1994 Buick Roadmaster

road_monster's 1994 Buick Roadmaster

As you can see,

the letters are raised,

and have a mirrored background.

Kewl Auto takes new GM covers,

sands them smooth, and paints them.

In this case, they are painted

Corvette Torch Red.

Kewl also paints inside

the Corvette emblem,

and adds the mirrored letters.

road_monster's 1994 Buick Roadmaster

road_monster's 1994 Buick Roadmaster

Here is a pic of the passenger side

installed and the driver's side

just sitting there,

waiting to be modified.

These covers don't need to be

modified for a Corvette,

but on a B-Body,

the fuel pressure regulator &

fuel lines are in the way,

so modifications are needed

for the driver's side to fit.

The driver's side needs to have a round

notch to clear the fuel pressure regulator,

and it needs either a slot or

two holes drilled for the fuel lines.

I chose the latter for these covers.

I drilled two holes,

and used black rubber grommets

for a nice finished look.

road_monster's 1994 Buick Roadmaster

Usually, I just cut a notch for the fuel lines,

and use black plastic car door

edge guard / trim to give it a finished look.

These covers are way too nice,

and being red,

the notch will really show,

so I bought a 7/8" hole saw,

and some rubber grommets,

said a little prayer cause

I was worried I'd make an

error and ruin the cover...

AC Accumulator Cover

& AC Line Valve Covers.

Got this stuff at Ecklers.

The cover for the AC Accumulator fits

right on the top.   Fits great.

I added more 3M tape than they provided.

The Cap Covers are vented,

and go right over the plastic caps.

The instructions say to wrap masking tape

around the plastic caps, & slide the covers on.

I tried that, and it didn't seem secure.

Especially in a high heat environment.

I used an "O" ring on each cap,

& then sprayed vinyl & rubber dressing on them,

so cap would slide over the "O" ring.

Nice snug fit!

Laser-Engraved Stainless

under hood fuse box lid.

My friend Ron Abner @ Abner Brothers Laser Art

engraved this polished stainless fuse box lid.

  It goes with the

"Buick Motorsports could have built it" look.

I had the fuse box cover made

when I bought the original cover

that I had (see below) with

the Buick Tri-Shield logo in it.

After adding the Buick Tri-Shield

logos to all the under-hood billet caps,

I thought the same logo on

the Fuse Box Lid was overkill,

so I thought I'd see what Ron could

so with the plain cover that I had.

Ron did the engraving on the MAP cover too.

(Please excuse the crummy photos.

Mirror polished stuff is VERY difficult to photograph,

and I wanted you to be able to read the engraving,

so I held a polishing cloth next to the part.)

I kept getting the same question asked

about the fuel pressure gauge:

"What is that gauge for?"

So..........I labeled it...

with a nice polished and engraved plaque.

You can see it right in front of

the fuel pressure gauge.

Now everyone knows what the gauge is for,

and it looks cool too! ;)

Polished Stainless Radiator Support Brackets

These are the two metal rods,

that make a big "X" in front of the radiator.

The picture on the left is of an

Impala SS with these installed.

The pic on the right is of my car.

They are partially hidden by

the ram-air deflector.

They can be seen though.

They are really beautiful in person.

April 27, 2008.

Bought a few more parts today.

Nothing big. Just small stuff...

Radiator hose temperature gauge adapter,

Billet Heater Hose Seperator,

and another Summit Racing

hose clamp kit (#SUM-390500).

These are really excellent clamps.

They won't ruin your hoses,

and let the rubber or silicone

get torn up in the worm gear.

This is important if you run the

Goodyear Hi-Miler hoses like I do,

or silicone hoses, like Samco's.

Spark Plug Wires

Here are the Taylor ThunderVolt

8.2 MM wires installed:

I found some nice chrome wire separators too.

They are kinda hard to find

that'll accept an 8.2 MM wire.

All the other ones I found would

accept a 7.0-8.0 MM wire...

The $5.39 Chrome Wiper Motor Mod

Today (March 31, 2008),

on my way home from work,

I picked up a chrome "old school" coil cover.

They sell them at all auto parts stores.

After cutting a small notch for the plug base,

the coil cover slips onto the wiper motor,

and is an exact fit.

I won't be using the chrome bracket.

I think it'll be cleaner without it,

so I glued it on with Silicone.

Once it's dry, I'll cut off the zip ties.

I think it'll add the perfect

amount of chrome, IMHO.

Also, I detailed all the wires

going into the wiper plug.

See the top pic how bright and clean they are?

It's all in the details ;)

What do you think???

Brand new GM Composite Valve Covers, Breather Tube,

and a Chrome Billet Oil Cap w/ the Mobil One Logo.

Also, new GM Fuel Rail Covers were installed,

as the new valve covers don't require the pass side

Fuel Rail Cover to be notched for the breather tube.

The breather tube enters the side of the valve cover, not the top,

like the B Body valve covers.

Installation of the fuel rail covers

with the composite valve covers is a bit cleaner.

Fuel Pressure Gauge. 2-17-08.

I'm done installing the Auto Meter

1.5" Fuel Pressure Gauge.

I bought a cheap 1.5" oil pressure gauge,

just for the gauge panel.

1.5" gauge panels are not easy to find.

The Fuel Pressure gauge I used is an

Auto Meter gauge that reads up to 60 PSI.

To give the gauge a more finished look,

since the front and back is visible,

I used a 1.5" brass pipe cap and

drilled a hole for the stainless line.

Painted the cap with low gloss engine enamel,

and attached the line to the fuel rail.

Here's how it turned out.

What do you think???

This gauge matches the

Auto Meter Arctic White 2 1/16"

gauges in my triple A-Pillar pod.

So, it's time to UPGRADE!

The above pic is of the new

Complete Cowl Renovation (4/6/07)

Replaced both cowl vents,

wiper arms, 9C1 wiper blades,

all cowl vent attaching hardware,

rear engine bay seal,

and detailed out everything in the cowl area.

Also cleaned and polished

out the entire windshield.

The lower windshield collects a

lot of dirt behind the cowl vents.

Take a look at any B-Body,

and usually you'll see residue built up

where the cowl vents meet windshield.

I had to use a razor blade scraper tool,

acetone, and fine steel wool,

but now there is ZERO dirt,

residue, etc on the windshield.

Everything is as clean as it can get now!

Intake "T" Pipe Ceramic Coated

(3/31/07)

Dan at Clear Image Automotive

coated the intake pipe

with Ceramachrome ceramic coating.

Coated inside and outside.

Looks good. Stays cool!

The main reason I did this is

because I didn't like the

polished aluminum finish on the pipe.

It's nice, but a pain to keep up.

The ceramic coating looks good...

and will continue to look good,

with a minumum of upkeep.

The bonus of staying cool is nice too...

3-13-07

Bought another wiper motor.

Was going to coat it RED,

but thought that I'd rather

just like the coolant and washer tanks.

Kind of a PITA to get to this thing,

Upgraded Headlight Harness,

Upgraded Battery Cables,

Goodyear Hi-Miler Hoses,

and a few other things

were just added.

Update 6-12-06:

Just did the "SMOKE TEST".....

Tested the Meziere Electric Water Pump
and it works!!!!

Tested the new Headlights.

Not only do they work,

but they are B-R-I-G-H-T!!!!

Then for the really scary test:

"THE TEST START".

She started and idled great!!!!!

Success!!!!

Here are a few pics:

I still have a few details to finish,

like installing the

Airforce 2 deflector

in front of the radiator,

and a few misc fasteners,

but I should be back

on the road very soon!!!!

It is taking a little longer than I expected.

However, I am using all new parts,

and not skimping on anything.

I want a top-notch job.

While I am waiting on a

few more parts I just ordered,

I am doing even deeper cleaning

and paint detailing...

road_monster's 1994 Buick Roadmaster

Now really is the time to

do many mods at once.

So, I'm doing all three wiring

harnesses at the same time,

while finishing the

Goodyear hose install.

  Got the three wiring harnesses

almost installed.

Need to hook power

cable to starter,

then the new battery

cable harness is complete.

Headlight harness w/ Hella bulbs is in.

Meziere harness is done too.

Also, installed a Delphi 2-wire connector,

so I can unplug the IAT sensor,

whenever I need to take the RAISS off.

Looks nice and factory : )

Here is why I chose to go

with Innovative Wiring.

Here is a pic of my stock negative battery cable

along side Gary's negative battery cable.

Any questions?

Want some?

Innovative Wiring

Here is a little mod you

can do to keep your

Innovative Wiring Negative Battery Cable

from coming loose from the ground.

I used the coolant tank bolt and nut,

and used a steel / rubber wire loom holder.

This cable is so heavy,

I was worried it would loosen

the factory screw ground.

Update 6-10-06:

Got the Goodyear Hi-Miler Hoses,

Optispark w/ MSD cap & rotor,

and Meziere Pump almost

completely installed.

Need a few more hose clamps.

Ordered another set from Summit Racing.

Went to Autozone,

and they didn't have anything

nearly as nice as the Summit clamps,

which have a liner,

so they won't cut or nick the hoses,

and are 100% stainless steel.

Also ordered some black heat barrier tubing,

to replace the factory stuff that covers

the heater hoses where they are

close to the exhaust manifold.

Parts checklist:

-Water pump drive seal.

-Optispark drive seal.

-Optispark vent harness.

-Optispark shaft "O" rings.

-MSD cap & rotor.

-Meziere Pump.

-Powdercoated waterpump body

(RED) for pump above.

-New temp sensor to waterpump.

-GM water pump face seal.

-Goodyear Hi-Miler hoses.

-Summitracing stainess hose clamps.

-Innovative wiring: Meziere harness.

-Innovative wiring:

Battery cable upgrade kit.

-Innovative wiring:

Headlight harness w/ relays.

-Hella Xenon 80/100 watt bulbs.

-Red silicone MAF boot.

-Goodyear Gatorback belt.

-Detail & deep clean engine.

-Paint & powdercoating to accessories.

-Replace all wire looms.

-Replace bad TPS plug.

-Relocate IAT sensor to air filter,

through RAISS.

I am relocating the IAT

(inlet air temperature) Sensor.

You can see the IAT plug

on top of the RAISS box.

I have ordered a new IAT plug,

and am running the wiring

through the RAISS box,

so the IAT sensor will

be in the air filter,

and not just in front

of the throttle body.

I used a rubber grommet with a

1/4" ID for the 1/4" wire loom cover.

See pics below.

I am using MSD's new Optispark

Distributor Cap & Rotor Kit.

This is brand new from MSD.

This cap and rotor set is much

better than the stock parts.

My stock Opti was working fine,

but I have it out due to replacing

the seals on the timing cover.

What better time to upgrade? : )

The next pic below the MSD Cap & Rotor

is a Meziere 43 GPM Electric Water Pump.

This will be installed on a red

powdercoated water pump housing,

and will also use a custom harness

from Gary at Innovative Wiring.

I am having the harness modified to

accept a warning system for the water pump.

If the pump fails to operate,

a warning light and buzzer will sound.

Also, there is an indicator

light to show that the pump has power.

road_monster's 1994 Buick Roadmaster

While I am at it,

I am going to install one of

Gary's Headlight Harnesses.

This will do two things:

1) replace the garbage stock

headlight wiring from GM.

2) improve headlight output.

The last thing I am going to order this

week is a set of Goodyear Highmiler Hoses.

I was going to have Samco

make me a set of Red Silicone hoses,

but since this blue color

matches my Granatelli MAF Housing,

and the price is excellent,

I am going with Goodyear.

Here is the Granatelli MAF housing.

It is a close match to

the Goodyear hoses above.

It will be a nice contrast to all the Red,

Black, and Silver in my engine bay.

Here is the Red powdercoated

Water Pump Housing

that I will be using for the Meziere Pump.

The Meziere Pump comes with a brass freese

plug for the hole in the rear of the pump.

Today (May 23, 2006),

I have been taking things apart,

so I can replace the Water Pump

Drive Shaft Seal and Optispark Drive Seal.

While I'm at it,

I am also replacing all the "O" rings.

The valve cover gaskets will also be replaced.

I'm going to remove as

many bolt on items as possible,

so I can do a nice clean and detail

before I put everything back together.

I know my water pump drive shaft seal

on the timing cover is leaking oil.

My Optispark seal may also be leaking.

It's hard to tell, cause the oil from the

upper seal is dripping onto the lower seal.

I'm just gonna replace everything...

and hopefully, no more oil leak.

These water pump drive shaft and

Optispark seals are not hard to install,

they just have to be installed correctly.

They are made of teflon,

need to be installed "dry",

and have special tools to install them.

Some guys make their own installation

tool out of a modified Sharpie Marker

for the water pump seal, but I have the

whole set of Kent-Moore LT1 Service Tools.

This kit also includes the tool to install the opti seal..

so it should go on very easily.

Here is the Kent-Moore kit you should

have if you have an LT1 powered car:

Corvette Fuel Rail Cover Kit

February 10, 2006

The B-Bodys didn't get the nice fuel

rail covers that the Corvette did.

They got the "Home Plate"

and "First Base" intake and covers.

These did a good job of

making the engine quiet,

and in my opinion,

they don't make the LT1 look like an LT1.

So, like many B-Body owners do,

I added Corvette C4 Fuel Rail Covers.

I also added the throttle cable cover.

You may notice the lettering

in the covers is nice and red.

I bought a decal kit made for these covers.

I think the red sets these off nicely.

I like the sanitary factory look

that these covers provide....

What do you think?

That is one hell of a write up on the Roadmonster. Didn't realize how much potential those had. Tastefully modded, just like GM would have done it. 5 stars.

I wish gm could start making these roadmasters again so they could build it just like yours, the right way it should have been done from the start! i see we will have a similar setup with the twin induction. i had no idea about you or your car and mods, then i ran across your page and it was like the gods were talkin to me. im really glad i have found you and im sure i'll have a few questions for you as i start my lt1 build and completing my mods. you have the best looking LT1 engine in the world in my opinion and i'll have the 2nd lol.make sure you check my ride out and tell me what you think because i'll be waiting. 1 million stars for you
