These are some progress pics of my 1969 Dodge Charger Special Edition, born on September 9, 1968. In these photos it has just received its first ever repaint of the original B5 blue, and I have since replaced the vinyl roof, windshield and back glass. I've just gotten a set of original Magnum 500's, and these go on this weekend! I will spend this winter restoring the interior to its original condition.
I am the second owner of this car, which I purchased in 1976. It's been in hibernation for a long time, just waiting for me to bring her back to life. The car has its original numbers-matching drivetrain with a 383-4v, 727 torqueflight, and sure-grip differential, with 114,000 miles. I found the build sheet when I disassembled the interior, so that was a real treat, absolute documentation of her DNA!
My first priority was to get it back into good mechanical condition, then to address cosmetic issues. There was very little rust to contend with, in the typical Charger places (bottom rear quarters and bottom of rear glass). She's never been wrecked so the body was laser-straight. The undercarriage was in terrific condition due to the optional undercoating. My goal is to make it a bone-stock top notch driver.
Thanks brothers Bill and Joe W.
Thanks Wayne H. for sharing your extensive knowledge of these special cars.
