Huw's 1971 240Z

2/06/09

Car now registered and running for over 2 years, indicator switch and ignition just died.

Parts hard to find, but fun to hotwire anyway!

Lowered King Springs installed along with some more original interior items.

May be getting sent to Japan.

4/9/06
Gearbox back in, rolling up and down driveway (lap round the block is tempting but illegal)
Carpet & sound deadening largely done. so just doors and soe wiring stuff to sort out.

29/08/06
Well, gearbox all done.....someone had dropped a self tapper and it had got into shifting mechanism (inside gearbox) and was blocking everything up (boy do i feel dumb!) but gearbox had quick rebuilt whilst out anyway.....so one less thing to go wrong.

Really close now, just a bit of wiring and interior work to sort out!!

3/8/06
Seats are reupholstered and back in, looks good and wanna take it for a spin now it all together again!! ..now just for the gearbox.
last set of interior pieces on their way from the states....hopefully doesn't take too long and i can wrap it up before my 21st!

.../7/06

well...still not done, waiting on the upholsterer to have time to do my seats (monday coming) and then I've just gotta sort out the gearbox. However, whilst I was in the shed started polishing (why is it that you only do this when bored?)

went a bit overboard and have cleaned up and polished the throttle linkage and brackets as well....I don't think i can be bothered polishing to a mirror finish tho.

More News....All bumpers on, rear panel on, throttle all sorted out, brakes running nicely......basically roaring along, just need upholstery and seats done now.....although....
have just discovered my gearbox basically needs a full rebuild (that's what happens when you cut corners and don't check before you put it back in!)

Anyway, as it stands now, not long to go and i get to drive it on permit anyway!!

Photo's once i get the interior sorted out.

Well new tyres are done, wallet is crying but they are done....
back to 14" tyres with 260 mags (had 15" skyline mags but they fouled on front suspension).
engine has been tightened down again, carbies tuned etc.....and it sure does go better for it.

just need to finish the upholstory now!

15/2/06
had another drive today, lost my radiator cap, but no damage done (apart from a splatter on bonnet!) got the 2.5" exhaust installed too, so now it is a little bit quieter (not much tho!! :-) )
anyway, some pice of the exhaust.

Elvis 1/2 way through first drive, after sorting brakes out, but forgetting to put some petrol in :-).
Nice to have a break for a photo or two anyway.

Ok, got a permit to drive the little terror w/o an exhaust down to the nearest mechanic and exhaust shop, for brake checks and exhaust fitting. thinking of going really early tomorrow and waking the neighbours.

just ironing out lots of annoying little things (wiring and lights etc), should hopefully be done by uni (next month), money permitting.
new photo's once exhaust done, will be 2.5".

15/11/05

Flying through everything now, headliner and interior is getting close to being together, windows are all in with weatherstripping, and lights are on the board for tomorrow.

13/11/05

finally, all painted, onto the final assembly.
Will post some pictures tomorrow but (at least to me) it looks bloody good.
can't wait till the exhaust is done on thursday then it's only interior detailing to go!

forgive the photo's they were taken with my phone & do not do the car justice.

14/08/05

well it's official, the weather in melbourne really sucks.
haven't been able to do any bogging/prepping on the zed because it's too cold and wet and heaters don't seem to work well enough.

on a good note though, all the panels are straight and the brakes are sorted out so it's only a matter of time until it's roaring down the streets.

7/07/05
All is going well, exams over so have been trying to finish up the bodywork on my Z, have ended up buying a new bonnet from Nissan Japan for $550 AUD, so am broke but it's very pretty.

We also have all the fron panels on and have spent the last day or two getting the gaps perfect, here's a shot from early on;

Next week will be spent sanding (sob) priming and bogging (wheel arches were cut so just to smooth welds)

Hope to have it going before the term break from uni.

here's a link to my dream zed

well no new photo's but I'm about to set up the brake pipes and bleed both them and the clutch before i finish all the panels.
have skyline calipers on the back and steel braided lines all round.
can't wait to drive it.

27/05/05

It's about time, but elvis is 'in the building' engine is in, fired up today with a beautiful roar (only headers no exhaust, yet.)
Fixed a problem with the ammeter in the dash (blighter to get at with the dash in!!)
Hope to have the body panels etc done by mid june but i have exams so its a toss up between car and study (not a hard one!)
Anyway, some fresh pictures.

No pictures yet but elvis is finally getting the engine installed and electrics checked, will post pictures soon, wish i had pics of engine prior to work because the previous owner had stuffed it in ways unimaginable.

19/03/05

Well its been a while but here are some pictures, the engine is done but not in yet, vinyl and insulation is all in. Almost ready to paint outer panels, i hope to have it running mid year (time is short).

looks good, pics coming up soon.

Will hopefully be running a bored l24 (to 2.8) or an L28 but the fastest it'll go at the moment is a push off a steep hill so there's a while to go

here is how it was before body work.

If you can see from the pictures this car had had more hits than elvis (thus the name) and has had an entire new front section welded on, followed by sandlasting.
